I'd like to get a 6 shot J frame revolver, preferably stainless. I know the 649 matches that, what others are there?

I think the only six shooter j frames were the 32 H&R and smaller calibers. You have to go Taurus or Colt to get the six shot 38 specials.

The new 632 in .327 Federal magnum is a 6 shot. It has much more clout than the .32 H&R. Other than that, I think shooter is right. Given the size of the frame and the cylinder with which it's matched the J frame is limited in the number of rounds you can squeeze into it. I believe the same is true with the Ruger SP101. It's about the same size as the J frame and anything larger than a .32 is a 5 shot gun.

As noted above, the .32 models are six shot, as well as the original Airweight or steel framed .22lr and .22 Magnum guns (M34/63 and M51/651, not the M317). The M649 is a five shot, unfortunately.

Get a 649 anyway, Apparently you really want one and you deserve it!

I have a 638 and a model 49. One or the other is my constant companion, and has been for several years now. I really like the "Bodyguard" J frames as they are snag free in the pocket and yet offer a single action shot if it is called for. I have not encountered a problem with the open hammer section getting clogged with pocket debris and not working, but I do carry them in a pocket holster and without anything else (change, etc.), in that pocket. I have not fired a .327 mag, but in the Airweight 638, 125 grain +P hollowpoints are about all I wish to touch off in such a small gun. I concur that a 649 would be a dandy thing to have!

My wife has the 638, & i carry the 649 a lot. They are both 5 shotters. The 649 can fire the 357 and both can fire the 38+P. Heres a pic of my 649.
