Last month TargetSports had Remington HTP 110 and 125 grain for about $19-20 shipped if you bought 10 boxes. Those are pretty good self defense rounds. Hard to find anything much under 20 though.

Was in the local Academy. They had at least 3 different brands - all around $20 box of 50. .357 mag (Monark) was $22. They had lots of it - though not the shelf-busting quantities of 9mm that you now see everywhere.

Last trip to Cabela's - they only had the HD (high dollar) .38's at 'keep walking' prices.

I haven't bought 38 since the Bush years (first term).

Still have around 1000rds of 158gr Federal "G" and Nyclads (about $6.50/50)

Probably about 400rds of Ga Arms cowboy loads/wadcutters (7ish/50).

By time I go through all of that, I should be able to reload my own.

About $4.50 a box. Found lots of them, right off of my loading bench.

I was going to say something similar to this comment. I've managed to get enough supplies to be able to make almost any .38 configuration I want for less than $6 a box. SWEET!

Here in Mexico, the box of Aguila 130gr, American Eagle 130 grs and Sellier & Bellot 158 gr run for 40.00 dollars the box of 50 rounds......pretty expensive no?

I was on the phone with my brother.......

He is going to leave me a coffee can of 9mm brass and some
factory 38 ammo at no cost...........

Sort of nice having a retired LE brother...............

He offered a 5 gallon bucket of 38 brass but I passed.

I did not ask what type of 38 ammo.
The last time he dropped off a case of Remington 148 wc's.....
some 158's would be nice.

later.

Expensive? Ridiculous is more like it! Don't know anything
about Mexico's policy on handloading but 38 spls are very
easy to load. Prices on auto rounds like 9mm and 40 S&W
are coming down fairly quickly these days and $20+ for
38s is just too much. The money spent for a very few boxes
would easily pay for a basic loading set-up.

Wadcutters For Sale

I just made a purchase from Precision Delta after reading about their wadcutters on the Forum. 250 rds .38 Spl HBWC with Federal primer (new Stock) for $102.75 delivered and they shipped in 2 days. The re-manufactured were out of stock so I will wait and see how their new stock works out but comparing them to everything else in the usual places these were a good deal price wise. I was unable to find any reviews on Google so I just went with the Forum members recommendation.

Hey guys, my lgs has magtech, white winchester, and federal all for $19-$20 a box. The local walmart has been getting federal 357's in for awhile now at $26/box and still has white winchester defense 38's for $24/50

Wow, how things have changed in a very short time. In 2008 .38 Special ammo was ~$6/box and now shooters are considering $20/box a pretty decent price. NEVER in my life did I think .38 Special of 9mm ammo would cost more than $6 or $7 a box!

Ammo prices have tripled, gas prices have doubled, food prices have never been higher and the economy is in the crapper. Can we stand 2 more years of this?

You Do Mean 10, Right?

Better be ready to add 8 years of the former Mrs. First Lady to the heap.

Last year people called me a hoarder when I said I was stocking up enough to last until until 2020.

Is it too early to tell the story of the ant and the grasshopper - AGAIN?!

Don't talk nonsense now, haven't you heard, there is very little to no inflation!? Everything is fine. Nobody is shaking the foundations of our monetary system.

Don't bother telling the story. You will get called names and and attacked for your actions. I'll tell you this though, if people don't start following your example they will end up whining about no ammo on the shelves.

Neither did I but 38 special in my area is going for 42 cents a round or higher before tax.

Yet people ridicule and criticize those who were buying up all the ammo while they could.

What are we supposed to do, sit back and buy casually as before until it quadruples in price? If anyone's noticed, gas prices never did go down once they skyrocketed. Guns and ammo may be the same deal. It's fairly obvious things are progressively getting worse across the board.

I learned my lesson. I'll stock up on the $20 boxes of ammo now, then be laughing (crying) once they go up to $40, as those who were once getting them for $6-$7 are laughing (crying) now.
