What are you reloading this weekend?

I am loading two new calibers, .38 ACP and 9mm Largo. I shot some test loads yesterday. I had success with the .38 ACP load, but my Largo load was too weak to cycle the action. Both cartridges were loaded with RCBS .38 Super dies.

Here is the .38 ACP. It is a Colt 1902 Military. It is loaded with 4.5 grains of HP-38, 125 grain Sierra FMJ in Starline .38 Super cases. Worked brilliantly.

Had less success with the Largo. Here I was also using the 125 Sierra over HP-38 in Starline Largo brass. I started with 4.7 and 5.1, but both were too light to reliably cycle the Bergmann. I'm going to increase the charge to 5.4 grains and test. Max is 5.9 grains, so I still have some room.

Ya'll have fun now, hear? I'm recovering from undergoing major knee surgery 10 days ago for the second time in six weeks and am in a full-leg cast, so there's no going down to my basement gun room - or anywhere, for that matter. Hopefully, when the cast comes off on October 12th, I'll have a little more freedom. Meanwhile, load one for me.

Ed
Wishing you a speedy recovery!
I'll load a few 9's with some new Bayou 115 RN coated and B.E. for ya. :D

Rifle rounds for me as well... loading '06 for my son and maybe some 400 H&H for myself. Intent is to carry a charcoal burner for my bull (if I can even make myself shoot one. Seems the closer I get to maybe my own mortality, the more softhearted I get. Something is dying...), but I may carry a center fire rifle as well, just in case I can't get one within 200 yards.

Hey Ed,get well soon!Kinda know what you're going through!
This weekend,I've emptied some target .44 and .38 brass but I'll have to get to reloading soon;reserve is getting low!Well, winter is knocking at our doors up here.Plenty of time for reloading then....38,.357,.41,.44,.45(both of them),a few 9mm,45-70,38-55,and maybe a few 30-06 and .308.
After reading this,I start to understand what my wife means when she says she doesn't see me any more since retirement than she did before when I was working.Maybe I shouldn't complain!

Did a "ladder" in 6 steps; 10 rounds per each step for 155 gr XTreme and BE-86 combo for my Shield. Now need to test it out.

My first reloads

Using the Lee challenger kit l loaded 125 gr lead cast and coated bullets from Missouri Bullet co. 50 in 357 mag cartridges and 50 in 38 Spl. I used 3.5 grains of Trail Boss powder for both. Hope to get to the range in a day or two.

The process was a pleasing and fun experience. Some of the things I learned. Empty cases from the same manufacturer don't weigh the same! Weighing them with the powder in gains nothing. The powder charger that came with the kit did a marvelous job. I checked 20 loads at random and they never varied more than 0.1 grain. With Trail Boss powder its best to use the eyeballs. Also, I learned quickly that one needs to depelop a procedure and rythm when reloading.

Just started my fall/winter reloading habit, cleaning/d-capping/sizing .38/.357 brass about 5,000 cases worth, then on to the .41 and .44 mag stuff, and last but not least a couple of hundred .22 Hornet rounds. Goal by spring is around 10,000 rounds worth. Gives me something to do for a couple of hours on cold winter days and nights.

Since I shoot matches every weekend, the only reloading I do on weekends is replacing empty magazines in my pistol with full ones. (and filling up the empty ones between stages). I reserve my handloading for weekdays. :D
