Just thought I'd ask, tryed the search function and didn't turn up much. In these parts we just shoot what ever is on sale, when the sage rat season kicks in. I'm curious on what you use for match, plinking and hunting? More recently I have been using American Eagle 38 gr hollow points, gone thru a brick and no duds. What do you guys use? Pigman

Remington Golden Bullets. I actually think they're crap, but my NAA .22 lr. mini thinks they're the greatest ammo ever made.

The two that work best in my .22s are: Winchester Super-X and Federal Auto Match.

I've had terrible experience with bulk pack Remington, especially their golden bullets.

My 22A prefers federal bulk for plinking ......... I get a lot of duds with winchester bulk.

It used to be Federal bulk, after having given up on Remington bulk because of the high percentage of no fires. But last week I took a new shooter to the range, and started him out with a 100 or so of various .22 rounds, then opened up a new box of Federal bulk. The miscellaneous rounds worked great, but the Feds all were hard to extract, and the rims seemed to be "ballooned" outward. I'm perplexed. This was in my S&W M18, which for 35 years has had no issues. Something is wrong with that Federal bulk.

Stiab, I did notice that occasionally with my mod 17, the extraction of shells that is,(couple dozen rounds) with the Fedral, but the last time out with the same ammo I had no problems at all and in a Ruger 10-22 no problems at all. It didn't stop me from picking up 4 bricks of the stuff, Americam Eagle I believe is Federal. And I sure like how the stuff shoots, I guess that what prompted my question. Thanks for the input fellas.

For pure accuracy in my heavy barrel 10-22 and most of my pistols, CCI Green Tag. I also use it for whacking the occasional little critter. I also like CCI Stingers, as well as CCI Mini-Mag HPs. The Mini-Mags are almost as accurate as Green Tags in many guns.

I don't use Remington if anything else is available, since I've gotten more misfires over the years with it than all other brands together.

Federal "Bulk" is likely made by a subcontractor these days. Doesn't sound promising, though. I've always had good luck with most all Federal ammo, AE and otherwise, rimfire and centerfire. I just prefer CCI in rimfire.

CCI Mini-Mags for me.

Eley Match if I really feel like opening up the pocketbook.

I’m not a target shooter or hunter so my needs are pretty basic.

I shot Federal 550 Walmart Bulk Pack in my Spikes AR-15 .22 RF upper today. They are recommended by Spikes and they run the gun great. Every once in a while I get one that sounds a little under powered, but none have stuck in the barrel.

Most people say the Remington Golden Bullet 550 bulk packs are lousy ammo. I shoot the heck out of in my K22 3rd model, and for the life of me I don’t think I’ve had a dud through many thousands of rounds. Seems like I get some duds when I shoot them in my 10-22 though. I’ve bought tens of thousands of Remington’s at BiMart for $10 bucks a box. I’ve bought tens of thousands of Federals too.

I still have a stash of several thousand Remington Vipers that shoot to point of aim in a fixed sighted Ruger Single Six that I save for that gun. Bought 5000 Blazers ($100) the other year right before ammo went up. I’m cheap but have to ammo that works. I’ve got a few thousand Winchester Wildcats that I’ll have to be real desperate to shoot, I dunno, maybe they’d be tolerable in my 9422.

I was shooting the federal 550 bulk packs but my 41 likes blazer much better. My 1022 target likes the old PMC target that I bought years ago
I have a Kimber 82 That likes the Wolf Match I get groups under an inch at 100 yards when I read the wind right

Sir, sometimes your gun will tell you. For example, my mid-'50s K22 does best with Winchester T-22, though CCI Green Tag is a close second. Anything high velocity tends to stick cases in the chambers and usually isn't as accurate as the standard velocity stuff.

On the other hand, my Buckmark feeds and shoots accurately with everything I've ever fed it, even some old Peters "el cheapo" that I bought nearly 20 years ago.

I guess the rule is, "There are no rules."

Hope this helps, and Semper Fi.

.22's are finicky, simple as that.

That's why you need to have several, so that you can use that bulk packed ammo in something, even if the gun you bought it for is inconsiderate and can't shoot it well....

I get a lot of duds out of the remington bulk ( at least 1 or more per magazine on my last range trip ) in my 22a. Federal bulk works best in mine. The value of the remington isn't much of a value when you have to throw at least 1 out of every 10 away. Not to mention that I hate clearing the ones that don't go off.
