Hello

I think I am going to buy my 1st 1911. The E1911 is just beautiful.

For those that have it, how is the reliability? Do the factory mags work well?

This will be primarily a range gun for me. Thanks for your thoughts

I bought one myself towards the end of last year. I love the thing! I've only got fifty rounds through it. Didn't have any problems with the OEM magazines but I only shot 230gr Federal. I bought a couple of magazines some time back when Wilson Combat had them on sale;I couldn't tell any difference. This is my first 1911 & I really enjoy it. If you do buy it make sure you post pics!

I have the two-tone Sc version that I bought strictly for a carry piece should the mood strike. I haven't shot it much as I have two S&W Performance Center 1911s for target shooting but the E-Series gun is great in terms of fit, finish and accuracy. I've only used the factory magazines in it and they functioned perfectly.

I don't think you will be disappointed. I have been shooting 1911's since the 70's, have pretty well been a Colt fan when it comes to 1911's ( own several of them), although I have shot a bunch of Kimber's, Springfield's, etc. I bought a S&W a few years back - it has all the "whistles and bells" that would have involved a custom gunsmith & a big outlay of cash in the 70'/80's, have run several thousand rds of my reloads thru it. It runs great with my 200 gr SWC's and 230 gr RN's. More accurate than I am. I have used the factory mag's, they function just fine. I have a couple ammo cans of "training mags" that I normally use on the range, so the factory one's have not seen much use. Overall I really like my S&W, it is very well crafted, runs great, it is a handsome pistol and shoots big fat 45's. I think you will be making a good choice for your 1st 1911.

I have the old SC model, is my most carried 1911 100% reliable, I see no reason why the e models won't be even better.

I am very impressed with the S&W version of the M 1911. About 2 years ago a neighbor bought one NIB and had a little failure to feed problem with a few rounds. I did a light tune-up and gave it some extra TLC that looked 'right' to do. He sat with me and watched everything I did. He went to the range and shot 100 rds. with no malfunctions and more accuracy that he expected. He has shot it regularly since with no malfunctions and his accuracy is just getting better.

I have stated before as a died-in-the-wool Colt MK IV Series 70 devotee, I think the external extractor design is an engineering improvement over JMB's version. I won't go into the reasons again.

If I were in the market for a new M 1911, it would be the S&W product. ....

I have two of the e series SC roundbutts and they are a joy to shoot. One of them has a trigger on it that rivaled my Ed Brown before I traded it away. I plan on adding a couple more E series to my collection in the near future.

I, also have the commander version of the E series.
I couldn't be happier with my S&W 1911.
I have shot a couple of boxes of ball ammo through it.
Again. A dream to shoot.

I too, have a S&W E-series 1911(see avatar). It is a pleasure to shoot. I own three 1911's. A Colt XSE commander, a Desert Eagle Commander size and the S&W full size. I like them all but the E-series is my favorite. You will be pleased with one. I have 3 S&W mags and 6 ACT mags. All function just fine. I mainly shoot 230 gr. FMJ at the range but I have put a few HP's through it with zeo problems.

Oops. Forgot to answer the mag question. Never had any problems with factory mags. In fact, I have a hodge podge collection of misc 1911 mags and I can never remember having any problems in my 1911SC e series.

Here are a pic of them. Waiting for another set of custom grips for the DuoTone.
