I just ordered a S&W M&P 15 complete lower to go with a CMMG upper assembly. The brand name on the gun will be Smith & Wesson, but can I really call it that?

I guess the same would hold true for the guns that were purchased as a complete S&W rifle, but the parts have been changed out. What are these guns called?

I'm really anxious to get the parts. The lower assembly was ordered from Bud's, so I know it could be a while. Cheaper Than Dirt has already shipped the upper, so I should have it soon. My son picked out the upper, but I think I'm gonna to like it for my intended use.

What brand would you call your AR?

BTW, is my trigger gonna suck? It's the standard S&W single stage trigger.

Your trigger will probably be just fine, but nothing special.

My gun is a home brew, picked out every part myself and put it together. The lower is a Rock River, but I would never refer to it as a Rock River as they didn't put it together. I simply call it my home built AR.

Betty. she's black, and goes "BAMALAM!" Its a mutt, hand-me-down Bushmaster upper on a Doublestar lower, with DPMS internals and a AR Gold trigger.

I purchased a Stag, made in Connecticut, about 3-4 years ago.

Depends what kind of triggers you are used to shooting. It's a standard GI trigger. Will probably break around 7 lbs. It won't be anything special. In competent hands, a standard trigger can be cut & polished and add JP reduced power springs and you could have a much nicer trigger. On the flip side, if someone who doesn't know what they're doing polishes too much and you end up with an illegal machine gun.

If you're on a budget, you could grab a spikes nickel boron trigger and add the JP springs. Turns out really nice.

If you're willing to spend more, check out the giessele SSA-E. it's awesome!

As for what to call your gun. I wouldn't sweat brands so much. Just say it's your custom build. Hell, give it a girls name lol.

Mine is a Colt/Model 1 Sales mutt and the other is a Colt/Olympic 9mm mutt.

(Guy) Hey, what kind of AR is that?
(You) It's an M&P Lower with a CMMG Upper that I put together.
(Guy) Cool. I'd like to build an AR one day.
(You) You should. Not that hard to get into and it's the most fun you can have shooting a carbine. Want to fire a couple of rounds down range?
(Guy) Wow! You would let me do that? I really appreciate it!
(You) Don't mention it Sparky.

Yeah, I can tell people that i "built" the gun when I actually stuck two pieces together. :)

I was looking at triggers at Brownells and Midway. Does the S&W lower have the .308 pin? I got no clue. Brownell's has the SSA-E Gissele trigger for $210. I'd rather spend around $100 on a trigger if any of them are any good.

As I have heard it, when it comes to ARs, the upper is the rifle. Not to say the lower receiver is unimportant, but the barrel and bolt (among other upper receiver parts) are the components that control much of the accuracy, reliability, and durability of your rifle.

Mine has a Rock River lower with the two stage trigger, along with White Oak upper with a 26 inch barrel. This is my match gun, my service gun is a Rock River from top to bottom. It is all in what you want and able to buy. If it isn't a match gun - then they are all about the same. I would call it a "AR" .
