I know we all hate photobucket!

This section of the forum "Gun Leather & Carry Gear" has a ton of information, but it used to have much more. If you look back at the Maker Specific threads (Brill, Heiser, Myres, and Lawrence, etc.), most of the pictures are no longer showing. Obviously this is not new to anybody.

I was just wondering what we could do about it. I just hate to see that much information lost forever. We could go back to each thread and try to replace the pictures, or we could just start adding the missing pictures to each thread again....leaving the photobucket tags there, or we could start each Maker Specific thread from scratch again. Am I ridiculous to suggest this? Should I just forget about it? Is there a better or easier way to do it? Here they are so you can see what I mean.

Maker specific- Brill

Maker specfic- Heiser

Brand/Maker specific threads- S. D. Myres

Maker specific-George Lawrence Co

That is a very good question. I have wondered the same thing. It is a
dirty shame to loose all of those photos. I hope someone has a doable
answer.

Searching and (re-)found this older -but still interesting- bullet test thing

I also found a few fixes for this photobuxxx

...and if you click on this pb-icons(?) where once was this beautiful holster...
the picture may open in a new window.

Just seeing...s&wchad is much faster with typing as me:D

s&wchad and P.44,
Thanks for the info. Did you both do this? I still am hoping for a permanent option that wouldn't require members to do different things depending on whether they use chrome, foxfire, etc. Hopefully, John will have a suggestion.:)

I think the easiest way is to just do a "do over" for each one. Call them "Maker Specific - Brill 2.0", etc. I think that would be easier than replacing missing pictures.

I added the app a while back and it works great. You don't need to do anything extra; just view the thread and the photos show up like they did in the past.

It only works if you download the app, so the best option is to replace your PB image links with forum attachments.

I only use Chrome, but I've been told there's a similar app for Firefox.

DO NOT start redundant threads. Edit your posts in the existing thread by removing the PB link and uploading attachments (photos) from your device to the forum.

I've done it on some reference threads that I thought had value and will continue to edit my posts in the future.

Hello boykinlp,

1. Warning + Sorry in advance:
I am not a "Computer-Wizzard", my English is for sure not perfect and I'm famous for my typos...

2. When pb (= photobucket) changed their rules...I was not amused !
After I could not stand it any longer to look on this "white places" in my posts & threads (and I just
had a bit "free time") I put in "Attached Thumbnails" for the "lost pb-pics", like here (example):
Cross Draw Holster for 4" N-Frame (M 29-2)
That was doable for me (at that time: under 150 posts and even less pb-pics in) but for someone
with a few thousand posts and even more pics...
That's a lot of work (and time) !

3. Later I "learned", that the pb-pics are not "really lost", they are "only a bit hidden":
Clicking (the first time "more by accident") on one of this "nice pb-ads" a new (pb-)window opened
and I could see the pic again !
"Better as nothing", but ("in my corner of the woods" the internet sometimes is a bit catastrophic)
very, very slow

4. Reading through Warren Sear's interesting Bullet Mold Thread
New 45 Caliber Bullet Mold
I remembered the already above (post #4) linked bullet tests, refound it and discovered also the two
"Stickies(?)" on top:
Handguns - 24hourcampfire
After "upgrading" Firefox with one of the pb-apps...All -at least until now- is working fine again :D

5. Conclusion
Perhaps some "Stickies" about these pb-apps...

and here may be some interesting thoughts in for the "Real Computer Freaks"

For different websites, if the forum allows pictures there - then post them there. ANY time there is a 3rd party you will eventually have issues, either the 3rd party changes or the 'owner' of the pictures, deletes them.

That way the thread and pictures stay unless something catastrophic happens.

That has been my experience on other forums....

I've successfully been using the Chrome fix for months, I never see photobucket error messages, only photos! Download the plug in, see the photos - it really is that simple.

OK, I admit it, I am computer illiterate. I am trying to follow the directions, I really am, but I am getting derailed right away. At the beginning, when it says to click on the apple, how do I get to the screen where the apple shows?

See, I told you I am computer illiterate.

boykinlp,
if you are a "Firefoxer"...perhaps give this a try:
Photobucket Fixer – Add-ons for Firefox
After the linked side had opened...simply click on the "blue button"
" + Add to Firefox "

After the app had loaded...open/reload one of this nice older holster-threads...
now the pb-pics should be back :)?

For more help...feel free, to PM me...

I wish the board would just disallow 3rd party hosting altogether. The board has a built in function, it takes seconds to learn and then the board controls it's own content forever.

Well, I am still trying! When I touched the link, it says added to desktop........now what do I do?:confused::confused:

I guess it would be best to PM me with advice so we don't post in this section anymore. Thanks.:)
