What defensive ammo are you carrying in your J frame?

Just wondering what everyone carries in their J frames for defensive rounds? I carry the (not made any more) 158 grain +P Nyclads and love them. They are accurate and carry plenty of weight..

I have a variety of ammo, but recently I've been carrying Speer 135gr Gold Dots in my 642.

I carry Federal 158gr LSWCHP +p's in my model 60. Don't know if these are still available, as I have had them a while.
I will use the same load in Remington when these run out.

After much experimentation with my Airweight .38's, I've just about settled on either CorBon 110gr DPX or Federal Gold Match 148gr wadcutters.

Model 49 and 442:
Buffalo Bore Standard Pressure 158's.
Model 640 (38):
First 2 are BB Standard Pressure 158's.
Next 2 are BB 158 +P's.
I can get the first 2 off quickly
and they warm me up for the next 3.
Model 340 PD:
Buffalo Bore 125 grain 38 +P's.
It's jacketed, so no loose crimp issues.
Prior to Buffalo Bore, all were loaded
with Corbon DPX 38 +P's.
All 4 have Pachmayr Compacs.

Remington or Winchester
158gr. LSWCP +P

I prefer the Remington, but the Winchester seems to shoot better but it's a harder alloy which I don't like.

I use the new Hornady Critical Defense ammo in my J frame

Rem/UMC 125 gr +P JHP, cheap and (relatively) easy to find. The lead seems softer than the Winchester White Box version. Not great, not horrible.

My handloads of 148-gr cast BBDEWCs, Titegroup and a Fed 100. Similar to Buffalo Bore's load with that bullet but with a few fps taken off.

That's very similar to what I load my wife's gun with, Nitesite. I dropped the velocity too. A fast wadcutter is a guaranteed overpenetrator.

Coach, what made you switch? Those are both good loads and I doubt price made you do it. I'm just curious, that's all.

That's a very versatile bullet. Hopefully I get the chance to shoot Perma-Gel/denim with that load sometime. I'm curious how it does at .38+P velocities. I would suspect expansion would be more reliable than Remington's FBI load and that's a great cartridge.

130 grain Winchester PDX1 +P. I've tested it amongst several others. It is almost a tie between the Winchester and the Remington Golden Saber +P. I plan to run several more rounds into water jugs and continue to check accuracy to make sure which one is actually better. B

I picked up several boxes of various +P rounds when I bought my 442-2. After finishing up every box a few months later, I definitely have a favorite. I liked the Winchester 125gr.+P's the best. It is a really good shooting, accurate round.

I like Buffalo Bore Std. Pressure LSWCHP's. Fast followup shots less recoil.

I have arthritis in my thumb joint and just had Carpal Tunnel surgery. You can get sore just thinking about recoil.
