What do I have???

... It was ok until the owner wanted to shorten the barrel and solder the front sight down. Everybody wondered what the stuff running out the muzzle was. He didn't melt out all the epoxy, so was happy.

Had the same problem when I called Larry Kelly.

He couldn't make his EDM machines run on a Woodruff barrel because the liners were epoxied in and conductivity was therefore lost.

So no Magna-Ports for me...

You think I was rough on Mr. Woodruff? You should have heard what Kelly had to say...

Well, lots of great info here, either on or off the subject and I learned quite a bit. Thanks all.

Gave up the idea of 44-40 conversion and just keep it in 44 special.

I will use it for plinking with moderate to warm loads, no stress and for carry while hunting with the same loads.

Have other 44's that I can jack up the load as needed.

Great conversation piece for sure.

Looks like it should make a great 44 Special, Slim. How's it shoot?

You pegged it. This gun shoots about 12" low at 15 yards. I took it to the range today and was really disappointed with the low shooting. Came to the conclusion that this will be a perfect SD weapon or home defense weapon.

No way to target shoot or compete with it.

But thats ok with me. I have others I can carry if need be.

OK, but is it a nice group? Does the revolver show potential as a 44 Special? If so why not complete the conversion and mount a N-frame adjustable rear sight on it. You'd have to do the conversions to make sure it works but just adding the slightly higher adjustable rear sight might get you close.

With a 90 year old frame, not sure it's worth it. Like I said, a good home defense weapon for sure. Pretty good a 5 yards

Since it has a target-height front sight, it's not surprising it shoots low. One option would be to put on a Wonder Sight rear, which attaches to the upper sideplate screw and may raise the sight picture high enough to make it print higher.
