What do these numbers mean?

Today, I acquired Model 24-3 4" barrel that came with the correct blue cardboard box that also indicates that it was a special order. So it appears that the original buyer ordered an additional 3" barrel because it was in the box still wrapped in paper.

Just above the serial number is the following: 4x4x4

Can anyone tell me what this means.

Is '4X4X4' stamped, or handwritten?

I'd hesitate to say never, but I'd be surprised if the gun left the factory with an additional barrel.

He said the box indicated that it was; where it would be marked if it was a Spl Order.

I guess I was wondering exactly what it said. The labels on my boxes have a Julian date code under 'Spec. Ord,' but they're not really special order guns.

edit: Is there a Product Code listed on the box?

Also the 4x4x4 is stamped.

"Spec. Ord. 3262" most likely means that the gun was shipped or made on the 262nd day of 1983 - September 19th.

I'm not sure about the '4X4X4,' or the additional barrel.

One other piece of information. The box has the serial code and product code listed twice. One line above the other. The serial numbers match and the (different) code numbers match.

But at the end of the day, I guess it doesn't matter how the additional barrel got in the box or what the unusual 4x4x4 marking means, if anything. I didn't buy this gun to be a safe queen. It will get shot starting tomorrow morning. Thanks for the input.

I don't know what the numbers mean and I have no idea if your gun was special ordered or not. I do know that if you have a 4" M24-3 you have a very desirable and sought after revolver...in an excellent caliber. Congratulations and good shooting.
