WHAT DO YOU BRING TO THE RANGE WITH YOU?

Like most people I probably bring too much junk with me. Generally a range bag stuffed with everything I need. It also depends a lot on what I'm shooting. If its just some modern firearms than most of what people have already mentioned, but if I bust out the Black Powder guns then it gets a little more complicated with bringing an additional range bag and my loading box. :D

I'll add another one to liven things up a bit.

(off topic) a100user, are you law enforcement? whats the truth about citizens owning guns in UK?

No not law enforcement.

Civilians can and do own firearms - with certain restrictions:
Must be a member of a Home Office approved club - probation before becoming a full member6 months
Holder of a Firearms Certificate - a vetting process with criminal record check by police
Suitable storage - steel lockable cabinets bolted to the structure of the building

Once all that in place there are some restriction on firearm actions:

.22 and 12g are the only semi auto's allowed
therefore all other calibres are single shot, underlever, straight pull or bolt action.
No handguns (pistols and revolvers have to conform to a minimum length 24" which means they have longer barrels and usually a bar welded to the handgrip)

We have civilians who own .50 cal (although there are only about 10 ranges in the UK where they can be used

So not as liberal as some countries but better no as bad a most people think.

And of course there are in consistencies - Northern Ireland and the Channel Islands (both part of the UK) can hold handguns. Go figure?

I have a MidwayUSA Competifion Range Bag so...

1. Hearing protection, 2 pair electronic muffs and some earplugs.
2. Three pair shooting glasses in clear, amber and dark.
3. Various paper targets.
4. Small round stickers to cover bullet holes in the targets.
5. Decks of cheap playing cards, I like to practice splitting cards as well as shoot them broadside.
6. Compact Otis Rifle/Pistol cleaning system.
7. Packets of Rem Oil wipes
8. Gun tools
9. Spare magazines
10. Food and Drink
11. Kleenex, paper towels and wet wipes.
12. Epipen for my bee sting allergy
13. Pens, pencils and markers.
14. Note pad
15. Scotch tape to put up paper targets.
16. Clothes pins for paper targets and playing cards.
17. Tin cans or other objects to shoot at other than paper.
18. Lots of ammo that fit the firearms I have with me.
19. Some friends to shoot with.

Indoor range: Pistol, 2 magazines, Uplula, Eye and ear protection, and pistol case.

Outdoor free shooting area: all indoor ingredients plus watermelon and fruit. I like the spinning targets you can hammer into the ground.

A100User

Thanks! Confused, never could figure out what UK firearms owner terms were.

I have a large Midway range bag which holds it's fair share.
I always have;
Three sets of ears + old military ear plugs
Three sets of eye protection (I have two kids)
stapler and box of staples
pack of push pins
speed loaders
I always have at least several hundred rounds of .22LR plus ammo for what ever we are going to be shooting.
a small tool kit for repairs and sight adjustments
several different sized batteries
Leupold binoculars
an assortment of paper targets and a small reactive spinning .22LR target

Looking at the contents of lots of peeps bags, I've noticed that it seems not many carry "Spotting Scopes"?

That's the one item I couldn't leave behind at the ranges I frequent. Target checks at 300 yds are a DRAG!! I have a cheapo 'Simmons'? too (it's out in my truck) that I gave Cabela's 50$ for on sale w/tabletop tripod and a nice, hard shell, waterproof carrying case.
At 100-300yds, I can see those iddy biddy holes just fine thru it, along with the shoot n c bleeding targets.

Gotta have my target 'pasties' too cuz they can prolong the serviceable time a 'bleeding' target remains on the stand quite well. Cheap, too.

Aside from guns (in the range bag) and ammo (in a separate bag), and targets (carried separately), my range bag remains packed at all time with the following so that I merely have to pull whatever I am practicing with that day and its ammo:

Keys for the locks on the gate (it is members only)
Range membership card
toilet paper
hand sanitizer
cleaning kit with rods, jags, brushes, patches, rags, Break Free and Q-tips
Glock Armorer's tool (I am a certified armorer)
Set of gunsmithing screwdrivers originally bought from Larry Potterfield when he worked behing the counter of his first little gun store just west of Columbia, Missouri - Bonanza is the brand of screwdriver set, made before Forster bought them out
1911 bushing wrench
hex keys
punch sizes for full take down of 1911
plastic mallet
Wilson multi-tool
Stapler and extra staples
My ear muffs (not collapsible type) and two extra of the collapsible type in case I take a new shooter or someone that does not have their stuff with them
extra pair of shooting glasses
Uplula loader and Glock mag loader
full moon clips for N frame .45 ACP
A few ziplock bags for storage of any carry ammo that is removed from a pistol prior to range work with target ammo

The range bag ALWAYS has an old Ruger 22 Auto in it, and the ammo bag always has a brick of 22 LR high velocity 40 grain solids. Other than that, a gun and appropriate ammo has to be added to the package.

Other than some Break Free occasionally applied around the breech face, feed ramp, extractor and to the bolt when the slide is locked back, and an external wipe down of the pistol and magazines, the Ruger has never been cleaned, ever, in many thousands of rounds and it has never malfunctioned. It is a good thing the Ruger is so reliable, because they are nearly impossible to field strip for cleaning, so I just don't.

In addition to the foregoing, a very old 10-22 also goes along so that I can get some trigger time with a long gun. It never has been cleaned either, although at about 15 years, I found I had to tighten the stock screws. But that was 10 years ago or so. It is little things like that that the basic little kit of tools is used for at the range.

The range bag and ammo bag are the deluxe models from Elite Survival Systems, and while there may be equivalent cases out there, I am quite certain there are none better.

Isn't that the damn truth! Last time I field stripped a Mark II I broke the damn recoil spring rod (the flat steel on the end). Those things are just miserable to get back together.

I've done the same and it's pretty embarrising.

I stripped my '88 P-90 and while not paying attention and running my mouth, I somehow installed the spring rod in *** backards (which is REALLY hard to do) and it took me an hour to get it apart without damaging something.

Lernt my lesson, tho.

I shoot in steel competition and carry so much gear for a match, that I'm now in the process of converting a jogging baby stroller into a cart, to haul all my stuff. Tactical baby stroller I guess. It's comical watching a squad of middle aged men pushing baby strollers to the next stage!

My list is typical, with two exceptions. First is my power chair. Never leave home without it. LOL. And second is my long grabber, so I can pick up my brass or whatever else I drop. Nothing else out of the ordinary.

Along with my 15-22 I take my favorite hand cannon of the bi weekly outing. It all gets ttuffed into my range bag. Usually the range is empty at my hour and a couple of those rolling across the ground targets go in the bag. Sooner or later I run out of ammo and the targets are out there somewhere. It all goes in the bag along with the broken down 15-22, 1/2 dozen magazines for it and a couple magazines for the hand cannon. My Tac Bag has separate compartments for the various elements of my outing.
