Other than dropping a 629 or any other revolver in a backpack or a Wilderness Safepacker, something like that, what do you carry when you can't open carry?

S&W L-Comp, .357
Glock 20
Glock 31
Glock 29
Glock 17

The same things I always carry. (No, not all at the same time!)

Open carry is always possible in the outback if one has a hunting license here in California. However I typically carry my S&W 329PD in the field.

I've never heard of such a thing. I always open carry in the woods, sometimes a large handgun and sometimes a long gun.

In California open carry, even in the outback, can get you arrested, unless it is hunting you are doing. What you are hunting best be in season and you best have the gear and the license.

I've never been any place that I could not open carry in the woods. If I couldn't open carry though, I'd probably carry either an M&P .40c or a Glock 27.

Hmm . . . depending on the season . . . concealed in some manner:

5" Colt Combat Elite .45 auto; chopped barrel (to 3 1/4") S&W Model 25-2 revolver, also in .45ACP; and many times . . . a 3" Kimber Ultra CDP .45 auto (lightweight officer's type).

Then, sometimes I've carried my 3" barreled Model 65-3 .357.

When nothing else can be concealed? My Model 37 Airweight snubbie in .38 Special in a pocket holster.

I usually carry as much gun as I can effectively and COMFORTABLY conceal in the woods . . . when it must be concealed.

Depends what and where the woods are. Personally around here about all you need to be concerned about in the woods are wolves and black bear and the occasional paranoid Meth lab worker or pot grower.

4" Mtn Gun loaded with 255 Keiths sitting over a charge of 16.0 grains of 2400 lit by a standard large pistol primer.

Wolf season opens again soon and I want a rug. Maybe two rugs.

I wasn't sure I understood the question, but since I live in grizzly country and when I go into the woods hiking/huckleberry-picking/backpacking I am cognizant of that fact, I typically carry a 4" 500 either in a belt holster or a fanny-pack.

If in bear country it would be a 44 Mag S&W Mountain Gun, either in a Milt Sarks Summer Special or a belt holster covered by a loose fitting shirt not tucked in. In colder weather I would carry it crossdraw in a Galco or Bainchi holster.

If no bears are around I might carry a Colt 1911, most likely a LW Commander in the same manner as stated above.

4" 629-1 in a Galco Summer Comfort. Awesome holster, if you have the waistband to spare.
