What do you carry in the woods when open carry is not possible?

CCW in the Woods

There are plenty of times in the out of doors when concealed carry is prudent.

If'n I need to be discreet and casual...But, well armed.

Model 24-3 3" & stout loads, shirt tail out.

But, I'm just saying.

If I'm working or hunting in the woods, it's a 21-4 with Keith loads ... crossdraw in a Bianchi Cyclone.

If I'm just wandering, it's my daily piece, a 642.

great leather

Yes Sir,
There are a few leather guys around these parts...
I cobble most of my own rigs up right here in the ranch saddle shop.
Just piddling 'round, to suit my fancy.

I've used a Galco fanny pack many times for concealed carry that is still comfortable when backpacking, etc.

Around here my only worries would be people, so my .357 or my 9mms suffice, either will roll a coyote easily.

I have carried a Glock 34 quite a bit when out and about.

Been in the woods several times a year in many states. If I am in the woods, I will be carrying either a S&W Model 66, a S&W 1911 (45 cal) or a Glock model 22.

As to concealed carry in the woods, never been an issue. Just open carry.

But now I am curious about the new national park carry laws. Will it be open carry or concealed carry in these parks? Never thought about it until this thread inquiring about concealed carry in the woods.

Why wouldn't you be able to open carry in the woods?

Here in Tejas open carry in National Parks is verboten. Open carry here in National Forest land or state parks is also forbidden unless it's hunting season. Dont know for sure about the national forest land but I believe I read it a while back. Couldnt tell you about Corp of Engineers land. Concealed is perfectly okay of your a CCL holder.

Keltec PF-9 usually. Wearing a pack is kind of a PIA with IWB carry but it's doable.

Other than dropping a 629 or any other revolver in a backpack or a Wilderness Safepacker, something like that, what do you carry when you can't open carry?

IWB w/ Glock 36 45acp
Keltec 380 in a pocket holster

Since GA is an open carry state I usually though just tote a Model 19 3"

329 in a law concealment systems with my shirt untucked. when I'm where the animals are smaller my 340 with federal 180 hard cast. hope I never need it but when I leave the woods I just drop in my street rounds and I'm good to go

A 1006 stoked with Winchester Silvertips -- or a Glock 29 with the same load -- with a 640 -- bearing the hottest Corbon 125s possible and a Hogue 6000 grip -- in the right pocket as backup.

Ironically, in S.C., unless the law has changed recently, you can carry openly -- IF you're fishing -- both while fishing, to and from -- as long as you can PROVE you're fishing.

I've always wondered what would happen if I bought a Pocket Fisherman, put on my angler's vest -- and walked Main Street with my 1006 out there for the world to see -- and when the SWAT team was called, told them that I was headed to the City Pond...

I think I'm going with a 696 stoked with heavy Buffalo Bore or Double Tap heavy 255gr hardcast bullets in the woods and hollow points if in city. I planning on putting that on my ccw and serving dual purpose.

NC is odd for open carry. While it is legal, you also run the risk of being charged with "going armed to the terror to the people". It's a B.S. charge, but those type of charges still involve legal headaches just like real charges.
