I feel in the minority here as I generally carry a govt. 1911 or a 2.5 in 686. though on the motorcycle I carry a colt DS 38 in case I go sliding down the pavement

I carry either this M19, made in 1970, or the M59, made in 1989. Mostly depends on where I'm going and how I'm dressed.

I didn't expect to, but I've fallen back in love w/ 3rd-gen/"traditional" S&W autos. My current go-to is a 3914 w/ Hogue's aftermarket rubber grips.

S&W MDL 296

Took awhile getting use to its size after carrying a j-frame for years. Now it is just part of all the other furniture I carry. ASIDE: I remember a post some time ago where a number of members thought it ugly. I thought the inscription "44 Special" erased any vision of ugly;)

Then you have much tougher ears than I do.

I fired one shot from a 7-08 deer rifle (with an unnecessary muzzle break ((used rifle- already had it)) in 1993 and my ears have not stopped ringing yet. I have what I consider to be severe tinnitus and a severe hyperacusis (sensitivity to noise).
I will spare you the details but it has significantly changed my life, and not for the better.
I am extremely fearful of making it worse.

Mr Mike I wish I'd read your comments in time to prevent my suffering the same ear damage you describe. Yes, it is life changing!!! My waterloo was a 4" Mdl 29 loaded to the hilt & no ear protection. I now carry a Mdl 296 & hope if I ever have to use it, its AFTER I get my ear plugs in.

Normally a M&P 9 full size, if clothing does not allow then I switch to a Taurus Millennium PT-111 G2 9mm.

Here's what I often carry: a Colt Cobra .38 special, made circa 1968 (please excuse the pocket lint :D ):

Normally a S&W 3913 9mm

Sometimes a Beretta 3032 Tomcat .32acp.

At work I carry an M&P 40

When I'm not at work I carry either an M&P9 or a 9C

To the big city, a 915 with an extra mag. Barnstorming around my little town a 2 in mdl 10 with one speedloader.
In those antigun places I try to avoid with a passion a airweight chiefs special and a speedstrip.

Lately, it's been my homely little humpback Model 49 38spl. I'll upgrade if, as J.B. Books said, my insides tells me to.

Depending on how I am dressed there are 3 in the normal rotation:
1. Glock 21 .45
2. S&W 66 3" .357
3. S&W 638 .38

I once had a Taurus .45, but it had a few problems. Once or twice per 10-round mag I could squeeze the trigger back all the way, as far as it would go, and nothing would happen. Then, when I released the trigger, BANG. Also, the magazine would eject on its on every few rounds. After three trips to Taurus they finally fixed it, but I decided it was not going to be a keeper. It had good ergonomics. Sure felt good in my hand. I'll stick with the three I have listed above.
