Carry gun

During a 25 year police career Iv carried lots of different guns on and off duty. In the 70s, prior to my police work, I carried a S&W mod. 60 snubby. A 100% engraved model, a gift, was my favorite. Later on the choice was either the Colt Officers Mod of 1911 or the AMT .45 backup. However, for the past several years my choice has been the Beretta PX4 sub compact 18 shot 9mm. My tastes have switched from .45 to high capacity 9mm.

Hmm....How is it that .45 got relegated to the "Other" category?

These days I usually carry a Smith Model 60 .357, loaded with Federal Personal Defense ammo. But sometimes I go back to my Combat Commander .45, despite lugging the weight around.

Serious carry gun.

Hands down, my 'nearly all the time' sidearm is a Colt (Lightweight) Commander in .45 ACP. Normally I dress around it.

In the summer when the casual trousers I'm wearing do not allow my Commander in the forward pocket, I use a cut down Model 10. In extreme conditions, I put a M36 in a forward pocket.

I own a number of handguns, and I've carried most of them at one point or other. I do not carry any of the 'modern' S&W handguns. The semi-autos have the wrong controls for my taste and the revolvers are cheap copies of S&W revolvers.

.45 ACP was left off the list. My #1 carry gun is a Glock 21.
#2 is a 3" S&W 66 .357.
#3 is a S&W 638 that I can always just stick in my pocket.

I'm going with my VP9 these days. awesome gun with a great trigger. love my 442, and the rest but i feel better with a 15 rounder... ease of reload is the key for my decision.

Shield 9mm when I carry. I am thinking about carrying my SP 101. 357 if I can find a comfortable cc holster for it.

Nearly always a '51 Colt Cobra. On occasion a Colt 1911, but less and less because it's harder to easily conceal. If I do carry the 1911 it's this time of year when I've a heavier coat to conceal it.

I've fired a duty .357 several times without ear protection and it didn't damage my hearing.

We often don't realize small cumulative hearing damage until it's too late. I too sometimes carry a 357 magnum, but did once have to fire a 357 indoors in a small room and thought I had permanent hearing damage as a result.

Different calibers for different times of the year here in New England dependent on clothing thickness, but the same type of ammo:
.380-Ruger LCP
9mm-Kahr PM9
.45 acp- S&W CS45
Ammo:Hornady Critical Defense
That's my story and I'm sticking to it

What does it matter

What does it matter about caliber or model as long as you carry.

My preference depends on whether I need 6 or 13.

Movies , malls and such, Berretta Cheetah, (380) Hornady critical defense.

Others, Rossi 461 (357) or S&W model 10 (44 spl)

Would like to have seen a break down on the 38/357 .. but the 9mm and 38 are usually the most popular in polls like this ..

Really thought the 40 S&W would have had higher numbers .. but guess not many shoot it as well as the 9mm or those people with 9's haven't shot a 40 much ..

S&W mod. 915 0r 910 for winter- casual/woods carry.
S&W mod. 5906 or 4506 for formal dress carry.
Taurus pt111G2 sub-compact for recent summer months/fairly new model from taurus.
Always with 2 extra mags and hollow points.

I have ear muffs and plugs in my vehicles and in my house. That said, a pistol in .45 ACP or 10mm auto come closest to the top of my carry list. A second gun is usually a S&W 442 or Glock 30, with a S&W 627 for "field carry" or Glock 41, for ammo exchangeability. Speed strips with .38 Spl for".36 caliber" sets. Occasionally Glock 35 and Kahr 40S&W together. A lot less muzzle flash and blast with pistols than revolvers. Hunting usually involves a 5.5 inch or longer .45 Colt, or larger caliber. I still carry a self-defense handgun even if muzzle loader or archery hunting.

Since the wouldbe participants in the "head choppers' ball" got active on this side of the pond, I've started carrying a 3.5" M1911 (Citadel 3.5 CS).

I'm more comfortable these days with fifteen rounds (a seven rounder in the gun and an eight round reload) of .45acp than ten rounds of .38 Special from my Smith 36-"no-dash".
