I put them in boxes :D

With my Smiths I keep the boxes more handy as there is a wealth of knowledge on the label.

I'm thinking about switching from keeping the boxes in boxes to keeping the boxes on shelves. I suppose I could go slow and keep the boxes in boxes and put the box on the shelves.

Boxes

I have attached them all together and made walls for my shack out of them...the foam makes really good insulation. :-)

No seriously...I always keep stuff like that too. I added extra shelves in the top of my gun closet to keep them all up and out of the way. Wire shelving stuff is really cheap at places like Home Depot.

I keep all my gun boxes and papers in boxes in my basement. I have found that when I sell a gun, I can usually get much higher bids if I have the original box and paperwork.

I vacuum pack them and put them in plastic tubs. More room in the safe. No damage or moisture to ruin them.

I just got back into handguns recently...I owned quite a few years ago, and then sold them all but one revolver. Then, in the last couple of years, I've bought, traded, and sold quite a lot. When I had a handgun that I thought was a keeper, one I would never sell or trade, I threw the box away, thinking why keep it?

Well, first thing is, I've learned never to say never. :o Second thing is, as someone else mentioned, people do pay more for a box and all the incidentals that come with a new gun. Why is that? I can understand that for a collector's item...but for a common, new model, I wonder why?

Anyway, now I keep the boxes...I have a 10' by 10' storage closet in my home office, and that is where I have my gun safe, ammo, supplies, etc. I keep the boxes in there too.

I pretty much remove the gun, put the box and everything that came with it up on a shelf in the man-cave and forget about it until I sell or trade the gun. I agree that a gun is slightly more valuable if it comes in the box.

Keep the boxes! I put mine in a large Zip-lock style bag and keep them near the safe, where they can't be damaged by moisture or dirt. The box adds to the value of the gun and come in handy if dealing with the manufacturer for warranty issues or to quickly determine the date of manufacture, etc..

Having bought and sold a half dozen or more pistols this past year, I can say that the box is an issue in determining the price paid for the gun. I was totally surprised to find a NIB pistol in a sporting goods store with a few other old stock guns. And, I bought a LNIB 3rd Gen in central NY a few months ago with box, spare mag, paperwork, tools, waxed paper. Damn near a time capsule. And yes, I paid the high end of the price scale for that model. I keep all the boxes, paperwork, wrappings, etc., together in plastic storage tubs in the man cave. Guns and mags into the safe.....where they're stored on a rack.

I am a box/paperwork keeper. My pistol boxes are in a Rubbermaid bin which is stored up high in the basement.

I keep the ones I have stacked in my basement, but most of my guns didn't come with one, as I don't have an interest in paying a premium for the box.

As I was told by an acquaintance a couple of days ago, "We pay too much for cardboard." ;)

LOL... my wife thought I was being really anal retentive when she caught me in the kitchen doing that with her FoodSaver machine.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that's done that. I've since bought my own machine for the garage and I vacuum seal loose spare parts to keep from losing them and my mint original factory wood grips from my early S&W revolvers, that I've swapped with "shooter grade" grips.

All one has to do is see the kind of prices that empty boxes are commanding on eBay and elsewhere these days to be convinced to start treat boxes as a valuable commodity.

I keep them in an old file cabinet. Most of them these days are plastic but I've got a few of the cardboard ones. Lately when I'm looking, I tend to look for "in the box" guns. I really couldn't tell you why. I guess I've already got "a gun." Now I'm looking for something particular, something really nice and the original box and papers are just that little "extra" that will push me over the top wanting a gun.

Not long ago, I got an email from Smith and Wesson about this. IIRC, it was a poll. Did I think they should continue to supply the plastic "range" boxes or go back to cardboard. I was all for the cardboard. The plastic ones are a pain to store, even more so than the plain cardboard ones. Again IIRC, cardboard was winning.
