What do you guys use for lube on your rails?

...But to be fair, there are greases I have not yet tested - like Militec-1 and GunButter - so it's too early for me to find it best but it's for sure really good.

I found GunButter to be no better than CLP...

I normally clean mine and use rem oil spray on a q -tip to wet my rails, the only problem is that it drys up in a couple of days.

What is a good oil that will stick around - but not gum things up.

Thanks!

TRY WD-40 WORKS FOR ME AND DOES NOT DRY UP THAT EASY.

lube

Oilis for rust prevention Grease is for wear.
It doesnt take much, found this out the hard way with my first AMT stainless 45 too many years ago.

Lubriplate.
The old rule, "Grease if it slides, oil if it turns" works well.
Hoppes isn't a lubricant, and WD-40 really isn't, either.

I use Tri-Flow -- normally for bicycles but a gunsmith turned me on to it. It's pretty amazing.

Clenzoil works great, kinda like deluxe Ballistoil(both good products);Clenzoil is also used on drilling equipment to prevent rusted well bores etc. Clenzoil is a great lubricant, just a tad slicker than Ballistoil, but I use both products, both are considered CLP's. Good shooting(Gunzilla and Hoppe's Elite are great also along with Triflow and nearly all the products mentioned here)Sure beats 3in1 Oil from childhood days.

So I rekon use can use just about anything. My dog has a cold, so I thought I'd use some of his snot to see if I could save 3 cents.

That's the problem with these types of threads. Positive annecdotal evidence is practically useless in this context. Some folks may like Brand X, but they lube their slide every 50 rounds even if they're at the range. Others may like Brand Y and they haven't ever cleaned their guns just slap some grease on it once a year whether it needs it or not. It's all out of context and with no frame of reference, no qualitative analysis can be done. What threads like this need is that "I used Brand Z and my slide became sluggish after X rounds". Do they use clean buring ammo or dirty ammo? Then some real comparisons can be used.

Just as a generalism, with no scientific evidence to back anything up, I use this guideline. I oil things that turn and grease things that slide. I find that multi purpose products tend to be too general. Take CLP for instance, it does 3 things pretty well but isn't outstanding at any of them. If you're humping an M60 across the desert and you need some lube, CLP is great and it beats carrying 3 different products. I believe this. If you keep your guns reasonably maintained you can prolly use any decent oil and any decent grease to great success. Over the years, I used oil and grease on slides and bolts at different times in my life. I don't believe I've ever had a slide or bolt malfunction on me because of lack of lubrication.

I use a small amount of gun grease on my slide and I wipe off any access. I then use a drop of grease on each side of the slide. The key is to wipe off any access oil of grease.

Yep grease on everything here from the AK, ARs, M1 Garand, P3at, M&P and Glocks. I have never had a lube failure. Never had to re-lube during 1k+ round classes. 3000 rounds through my AR with one initial lube of grease. Just regular wheel bearing grease in a tub you buy for $5 will last you many years.
I hated CLP when I was in the Army and still do today. Good for cleaning but horrible as a lube.
