What do you pray for?

I'm Catholic. Yesterday I said a Rosary for my son Brian who took his own life at 17 years of age. I prayed that he was finally at peace, and also that he forgive me for not being there when he needed me most. Yesterday was the eight years aniversary of that day.

I am also a Roman Catholic, and pray you will receive your peace, and everyone in this world.
I thank God for a roof over my head, food on my table, warmth in my home. Anything beyond that is just gravy.

I pray for world peace, and so does my daughter. How else will she ever win Miss Universe?

Seriously, and this is properly a serious thread, I pray for those whom I know need inner peace and success, whether financially or emotionally.

Currently, I am praying for a friend in Australia who just lost a friend to suicide. I had a classmate who did that, too, and I prayed for his soul. It can be hard on those whom they leave behind.

And I pray for my nation, and for my children. I even pray for my ex-wife. And I especially pray for my atheist brother.

I know y'all will think this is weird, but I find myself saying a prayer whenever I pass a church (which is about 30 times a day), or a cemetary. Each time, I say a prayer for someone different. Mostly, they are for folks I know are sick, but a lot of times I pray for the souls of friends and relatives who have passed on. I try to remember all the folks here who request them.

Marine2541. I know you didn't ask, but I am sending one up for you and your son. I truly believe that God listens.

Me too. I can't imagine your pain, and I hope everyone here who reads your post will help WG840 and me in our desire to "lift you up," as Lee would say. Stout heart.

I absolutely believe that God listens, so I quit asking for specific things a while ago. It seemed selfish.

These days I throw in a good word for those who need it, and I ask for the strength to bear the burdens and the grace to deserve the gifts that God gives me.

Before praying for anything, I give thanks for what I already have and ask forgiveness for sins I have committed. Only then do I ask for anything and that usually involves health, family, church, and country.

For my kids and grandkids, that they may be healthy and safe. Also thay my Heavenly Father give me the strength and enduance to be the best man I can be.

And I give thanks for my blessings.

The other day at the range, my arthritis really was hurtin'. I was trying to pick up some paper I had dropped, and asked God to help me. A little breeze came up and pushed that paper into my hand. I know it sounds corny, but I believe my prayer was answered.

In James there is a verse that talks about praying for others so that you may be healed so I pray for others. Right now it is for marine4521.

Well, (deep subject).

I am no pastor, just another pilgrim trying to make progress.

I don't ask for blessings, I am so blessed every day.
I don't ask for safety, because I don't imagine that God is my personal air-traffic-controller.
I try not to put "God in a box," as we so often do.

I do pray that He gives me and those around me the wisdom and understanding that I/we need to have, and that our undertakings give Him the glory.

I am thankful for each and every day that I live, for each day lived is a blessing- no matter what the circumstances. I have blessings uncountable and I know I take many for granted.

I do pray for family, friends, leaders (yes, our President too) and co-workers (current and retired)- so that they may know Christ, and that they have the wisdom and knowledge recalled to them so that they make the right decisions for us and our posterity.

I know that this is a forum of many diverse beliefs and holdings, and even though I may not agree with those held by others, I respect other people.

Quite notably, this thread came up...

Today is the National Day of Prayer.

Very well put! Thanks, I need that!

That the First Sergeant in the sky melts the brains of those who seek to destroy my brothers and sisters who defend our nation.

I probably do more thanking than praying. Just this morning, like every morning as a matter of fact, I thanked the good Lord for giving me another day.

I've had things like that happen, and had a very close call where I think only the intervention of God kept me from being T-boned by a big Mercedes that ran a red light. It was also speeding in a 40 mile an hour zone. The nurse driving it said that she went to sleep at the wheel after a long shift.

She left paint on my bumper. Thank God and Toyota that my brakes worked just well enough, and that I have exceptionally good peripheral vision for a man.

Marine; I pray for you & yours. Not easy dealing with suiside. My wife of 27 years did that in 1987. A burden that won't be released. My kids told me don't blame yourself but it 's still difficult after all these years. I do pray mainly for my kids & grandchildren. We all pray for peace but only peace I've found is with the Lord.

Red14 I truly believe the Lord answers prayers even small ones like that.

About a year ago my little girl was sick and I was sitting up worring about her. I was saying a prayer and a thought popped into my mind about a couple of bright lights that were bothering my eyes. I really didn't mean it as a prayer but I thought God it would be easier to pray if those lights weren't on and poof the two totally unrelated lights went off instantly. BTW my daughter was fine the next day.

Marine2541 your in my prayers also. God Bless

I actually kind of like that thing known as the Lord's Prayer. It seems to hit the high points. Other than that, I am don't claim to be smart enough, or well informed enough to know what else to ask for.
