What Do You Think Of The M&P9c for CCW?

One case where the extraneous thumb safety may have a good use is for unconventional carry such as jamming into your waist band or carrying in a pack. At these times some piece of stuff, such as a shirttail or some junk in your pack, could conceivably get caught in front of the trigger and exert enough force to fire the gun.

Occasionally, I have been guilty of 'Mexican' carry, but have since thought better of that practice. Now I consider striker fired guns without the thumb safety as strictly holster guns.

That's how I carry auto-loaders anyway. I am considering transitioning from 1911's to striker fired guns with only internal safeties: Glocks, XD's, and just maybe I'll go with an M&P. Tried one at the indoor range today and liked very much.

I carry a M&P9 Compact everyday during the winter. I got the M&P because it did not have a thumb safety, nor did I opt for the mag safety. If the time ever comes that I need to pull the trigger in a hurry all I want it to do is go Bang. And yes, I Do carry with a round in the chamber and 12 in the mag. (TGS where are you??)

"If you must own a 9mm, keep it in a box so you don’t accidentally load it. If you do load it, don’t shoot it. If you do shoot it don’t hit someone. Because if you do hit someone and if he ever realizes he’s shot, he’s going to be angry!" - Jeff Cooper
· 9mm's are all well and good until someone loses an eye.
· As long as one doesn't get into a gunfight, a 9mm is just fine. - Mark Moritz
· Do not attend a gunfight with a handgun whose caliber does not start with a "4."
· "Because you know that the 9mm is a .45 set on stun."
·"Why did I shoot him 7 times? Because 6 times wouldn’t have been enough and 8 would have been too many." - Massad Ayoob

The safety is between your ears. Never count on a mechanical safety to overcome poor training or unsafe practices.

FWIW,
Now up to 700 (W W/B) out of an M&P9c in 3 weeks.
As yet, 0 FTF, 0 FTE, 0 any issues.
Except no hide left on my thumbs from trying to keep the thing fed?
