Hi guys,

I just picked up my first S&W auto. I've been a 1911 guy forever and carry a Glock 21 for duty but I wanted something different for concealed carry and off duty errand running. I've always liked the looks of the M&P line and am now trying to figure out what I should get to go along with it.

* I've read a lot about the Apex trigger system. Could any of you S&W experts tell me a little more about it? Is this a must for the M&P? Would this make it lighter? More like a Glock trigger? Any explanation/description would be much appreciated.

* Also, is there any way to disable the magazine safety system? I've never had a gun with this feature and am not sure how I feel about it.

* Is it very ammo sensitive? I've got gold dots in it now and plan to run them and a handful of other SD rounds through it to see if it likes anything in particular. Although I think most of the reports have it eating everything that's put in it.

Anyways, I'm looking forward to learning more about the gun and the forum. If you've got holster recommendations kydex and others, I'd love to hear! I've already got night sights so that's one less thing to worry about.

Thanks to all.

Gold dots are great in a 9C. Mine hasn't given me any trouble with any ammo.
I have a set of Fiber and TRITIUM from Truglo on mine green front and back. And a Crimson Trace Grip laser. In my mind that is all I need. My Trigger is fine but if you want to get yours done with all the APEX stuff then do it. I suggest you put 200 rounds through it first and then see if you think you need it.

The Mag safety can be disabled. Google You tube for some how to videos. You might want to think about disabling any safety. If you do have to shoot someone will some over zealous DA make a point that you must have been looking for a fight if you went ahead and disabled a safety. Something to think about.

I love mine and it is my Winter carry weapon. For summer and light clothing I use a M&P Shield.

Go to Apex Tactical and you can read up on the merits of the Duty/Carry AEK.

As for removing the mag safety, Speed Shooter Specialties sells a replacement spring for the sear block that you would need to install if you remove the mag disconnect lever.

My 9C has the hard sear, USB, and a set of trijicon tritium sights. The trigger pull and take up is exceptional. Wish my 45C was like it. I shoot Speer 115 GDHPs and a similar reload. No issues to date.

Thanks for the thoughts mlapaglia. I've got it loaded with gold dots as we speak and am headed out to the range today to give it a run. They are definitely one of my preferred loads.

You've got a good point about disabling the safety. Didn't think about that angle. God knows these days you've got to think of all of the options.

What do you carry yours in?

Same set up here, 9c, all the apex parts, trijicon night sights. I carry 115 gr hornady critical defense though. Also some talon rubberized grips.

I carry the 9c in a crossbreed supertuck with my own combat cut. Highly recommend it. extremely comfortable and customizable

Buy enpugh ammo to get familiar with the pistol and smooth things up, and you may find that you don't need anything but a holster.

Thanks for the input guys. I just went and ran 150 rds through it today and it took everything I gave it. I will say I wish the trigger had a more defined reset like my Glock. I shoot trigger reset and would love it if they had the same similar feel.

I will say though, that is one COMFORTABLE pistol to shoot. I think I am really going to enjoy it. I've been researching holsters and like what I have read/heard about the Raven Concealment line. Looks like there's a pretty solid wait for those though. I picked up a generic leather paddle holster for the time being just to have something to carry it around with.

One question, for those with the Apex trigger system, does it give you the definite feel of the reset?

To get the reset you need the Apex ram. That will give you the reset sound and feel. The apex DCAEK trigger is great. It really soothes out the trigger and it is well worth the money. I have it in my full size 40 and love it. As far as add ons if you want to use full size mags you can get them and get x-grip adapter, and fiber optic or night sights.
Enjoy your new m&p...

With the apex ram kit that I have, I can both hear and feel the reset. I recommend buying up everything they offer for the 9c. It's well worth the money IMO

I have the night sight le package 9c, the only thing I added was a holster. Shoots great. Right now I am running 147grn Rangers.

Congrats on the new 9c. I just bought mine yesterday. I carry Speer 124+P Gold dots in mine. For now it's stock but I'm getting the DCAEK and AEK aluminum trigger for mine. With those two things I have the option of running a 4.0-4.5lbs trigger or a 5.5lbs trigger. Best thing about it no more **** pretravel. ;)

Also forgot to mention I'm getting talon rubber grips for it and 10-8 performance night sights.

Is there a FAQ anywhere listing out all the apex options for triggers in the M&P? It is quite confusing to me at least.
