What do you think of this deal?

I'm soliciting advice from my Forum friends...

I am blessed to work with 2 brothers who have lots of guns, but always manage to find themselves "over-extended" or wanting something new. I'm always happy to "help" them by taking a few guns off their hands!

Here's the current situation: I've committed to buy a Beretta 92D for $250. Used but not abused. He also has a Smith Model 13 in beautiful condition. No box or papers, and has only Pachmeyer grips. It has no holster wear, but I don't know how to rate it- at least 95%, possibly as high as 98-99%. He wants $400, or $620 for both. Should I take the pair? What would you do? (My first duty gun was supposed to be a 13, but they were out, so I picked a 65. I love it, but have always thought about the 13 I never got...)

Great deal on the Beretta in about any condition. Good deal on the Smith too, especially if it is the three inch barrelled round butt version. $400.00 wouldn't begin to touch my 13.

If you want them and have the money and can afford them, get them. That's a very good deal in my opinion.

It doesn't sound like you really "love" the Beretta? That is fine, buy both and move the Beretta at a profit, you have the luxury of time to sell.

I don't "love" the Beretta the same way I might "lust" after the Model 13, but the Beretta is a decent gun. I used to carry the 92FS as a duty gun (department-issued, not my choice), and still have a nice Italian-made FS that's been shot very little. I like the idea of DAO. On my old department, when we carried revolvers (4" Model 57!), we were forbidden from cocking the hammer- had to shoot only DAO. Fear of negligent discharges. Then we went to the 92FS- a gun that cocks itself for shots 2 through 16! I could never quite figure that out...

Anyway, thanks for all of the advice. I think I'll let him sweat it for another few hours before we complete the deal!

You can't go wrong on the Beretta. Decent deal on the M13 as well, even better if it has a 3" barrel.

How many mags come with the Beretta?

If it were the 3" RB, I wouldn't have posted- except to gloat after I bought it! It's the 4" SB, just like my old 65 duty gun. (However, I do have a 3" RB 65, since everybody should have at least one!)

i purchased my 92d from the dept.for a dollar when i retired...i'm not that big on bottom feeders but heck...its shoots very well

It's a done deal... I now own two more guns! (Of course, now the wife gets a new purse, too. Not a bad deal.)
