What does she REALLY mean?

My fiancé LOVES shooting my Woodsman! It is her absolute favorite, so get her something she can really call her own. Price does seem high... Is it a MT?

My wife's the other way around. We went to our favorite pawn shop on our way home and looked at guns. She went directly to the case hardened single action revolvers. "When we can afford it, I want one of those." She's not one for being subtle.

Don't ask her and buy it for me instead :p I will take it off your hands no problem:D

This is the point that I employ the sister or best friend. Around Christmas and other "important dates" they are always most helpful.

I feel your pain because I faced it LAST year. I relied on her Sista for relief! I also pulled off a surprise 50th party a few years ago the same way. You see, I'm her tech support so I have access to all her emails! I used her contacts to help arrange the party. Had all her close co-workers and other friends on board without her ever even suspecting. Side benefit, ALL her friends think I'm the most wonderful husband on earth!!!!!

Of course, I said in the op that even though I would rather spend the money elsewhere I would get it for her. And I have caught the hints but she has repeatedly said do NOT buy her a gun. There in lies my dilemna.

IF you can afford it just buy the lady the pistol!

IF she isn't tickled pink you can always sell it.

IF she really likes it - you got brownie points galore:p

I wish more women were like that.

Don't they know men are STUPID, and don't understand hints.

Hit us upside the head with a ball bat and get out attention. "Hey!! Dufus!!. I want THAT!!!"

That works real good.

I don't agree with the "just buy it for her". Maybe if it was a 300 dollar Ruger, but not a 1300 dollar Colt. I'd want absolute proof.

Iffen it was me, I'd take her in the store. Point. Say, "Darlin', you been kinda droppin' hints, but I'm stupid, so you gotta tell me these things. Do you want that gun for Christmas? If you say yes, I'll buy it, wrap it up and you can be surprised. But if you say no it ain't gonna happen."

This is a woman that buys her clothes from Goodwill despite my protests. I don't think she has ever asked for anything over $20.

A secondary thought is that she is a citizen now and I'd like her to feel the sensation of being an actual gun owner because it is her right. I kind of like the idea of putting it in her hand and saying "if you want it, buy it, here is the money". BTW, she is as free to spend our money as I am, she just won't.

Hey there! How many years have you been married? Don'tcha know that women drop suggestions disguised as obtuse hints? One just dropped on you like an anvil from the 4th floor and you didn't even realize it! Of course she wants it! The only question now is can you afford it?

John

Bingo!!!

Telling you she doesn't want you to buy her a gun is nothing but a sideways way of telling you she wants you to buy her a gun...if she didn't want you to buy her a gun she wouldn't say anything about a gun.

Like John said, if you can afford it, and if it's a fair deal, get it and when she opens that package under the tree she is going to glow!

It'll be sweeter to her if you get it and it's under the tree for sure...

If you decide to buy it, try and negotiate a lower price.....I've bought a couple of S&W's from Cabela's gun library and was able to get a lower price in each case. :)

Don

Cabela's will usually deal on gun library guns so go find there bottom line. they want to move guns and if it has been there a while they will go lower

I don't think so. I have never shown any interest in the Woodsman but I have slobbered over many others.

do the math my friend;)
she's after your Mkii but does not feel right about invoking the spousal privilege of eminent domain.
If, she gets you the woodsman, you then have a pistol of higher value than the crumby old ruger which she will graciously claim.
After all ... the larger price tag must equate a superior product that you would transition to, thus leaving her the MkII when its orphaned.

thats the function of that little blue knob on the right;)

not that one ... the other one

I guess the OP is wanting opinions on how to interpret women. I am still hung up on the price of the gun. If my wife would like a 2000 Corvette for Christmas and the one she looks at is $40,000, I think that figures into what is the smart thing to do since $20,000 is a more normal price for a base 2000 Corvette. Several people have commented on the price of this "not very well identified gun" as being high but the OP doesn't seem to want to talk about what the gun really is. I guess if it doesn't bother him, it certainly shouldn't bother me.

Get her what you......

Get her what you want to get her just make sure that if it's a gun, it's THAT gun. Maybe she wants to trade, maybe not. Doesn't mean you won't get to shoot the Ruger any more. Whatever you get you will likely be wrong so just do what you think is best.

Every woman I have ever met or been friends with will not come right out a say what she means. They will drop "hints". Mom did it, first wife did it and now current wife does it. They will say not to buy it but deep down, they want you to buy it for them. So i say, if you got the cash, get it, you will be rewarded later!!!

Paging the OP. What model Woodsman is the one in the store? The Woodsman is a beautiful beautiful gun but generation and barrel length and obviously condition influence the price. They did make a bunch of them and they are out there. So I ask again-what model were you looking at? If it is double a fair price then find an identical one at the "correct" price.

I don't know and don't know anything about Woody's. I've seen thar Cabela's usually knows what to charge for guns. What should I look for?

Does anyone know if Cabela's will dicker o their prices?
