When I was in the army (13B20) all my "tactical gear" (except my M16) was old, beat up, & green.

The term "technically & tactically proficient" got thrown around a bit, but no one could actually define it. I always said technically proficient was doing your job well & tactically proficient was doing your job well when somebody's shooting at you. I also frequently observed that every piece of equipment the army issued me was designed to be used by an idiot who was being shot at. So that's pretty much my experience with “Tactical”, my wife owns a .380 Llama , it's painted black & has "combat" sights on is IT "Tactical" or maybe even "Tacti-c:D:Dl" ?

They use that word because people think it's cool.
I saw a pair of "Tactical" handcuff keys recently. Also saw in a magazine a "Tactical" clipboard.

I guess if you paint it black it makes it "Tactical".

Just painting it black won't cut it. To be truly tactical, you also have to double the price.

Now a completely meaningless marketing term. Too bad, it used to have meaning before they began using it to label an insane variety of products.

Just a marketing term. In 1898 an M1888 .45-70, a dark blue shirt, sky blue trousers, khaki leggings and tan campaign hat were tactical for me.

I picture a team of well trained soldiers such as navy seals busting into a room in full body armor carrying specialized weapons.

All this tactical foo foo... When I was in Afghanistan the real tactical stuff was build out of HESCO wire which you cut and bend to something useful because you didn't have it out there... :D

I always laugh when I see all the people at shooting ranges in their super tactical gear like they were in some sort of secret squirrel club.
Kinda like the baseball hats with the velcro... Always fun to see hahah

But really great to watch are guys trying this :

Tactical to me means ****. Save it for the video game crowd. I'll take a lever gun or an all steel 1911 any day. I do like polymer guns just not as much as older metal guns.

I think of tactical as combination of gear for a particular purpose. And of course it must always be black.

Anyone want to take a guess what mission this tactical gear if for? :D

The word Tactical is also used to check for any sign of life when an old curmudgeon is found face down in the dirt. If there is no sign of life after saying the word Tactical, try Tacticool... works better than a set of defib paddles.

The word tactical brings to mind a multi-tattooed "operator" that wears his sunglasses in the house.

You know, what arjay said.
