What does this do?

Working on a generator that has been sitting awhile and am soaking the carburetor. Although I
have done these carbs before, I never knew what the function of the green device that is bolted
to the bottom of the carb bowl, I'm guessing it has something to do with emissions, but how does
this accomplish that?
It attaches with 2 screws and has a small plunger thing that enters the nut that tightens the carb bowl.
It has 2 electric leads that plug in to a main harness.

I believe it works in conjunction with the low oil shut-off feature found on most portable generators.

Yes, researched further.
It is to prevent "afterfire", which is when the ignition to the motor is cut
and gas flows into the hot muffler causing an explosion. The pintle drops down, cutting off the gas flow.
