What does your wife carry, and how does she conceal it?

My wife has had her permit for over a year, and after today's range session is asking me about her being able to carry concealed. Of course, I'm all for it.

She is 5' 6" and 120 pounds, slim & athletic build. She is also very active. She is very good with my XD40. She likes my revolvers as well, but the XD40 is easier & more natural for her to handle & shoot accurately.

I think, given her size & build, that a small auto-loader is going to be the right answer for her. But naturally they are harder to shoot accurately with the added recoil, and more prone to malfunctions like FTF or FTE. Neither of us have handled or shot the small auto-loaders that are recently popular.

Looking forward to hearing your input. :)

I think this could be an interesting thread. My wife just bought (at my instigation, I must admit) a little autoloading .380 (not a Smith). We can have 4 guns on our permits and I am going to encourage her to qualify with my 49 and 4" 10.
For women who carry purses hiding guns should not be that hard.

I carry a 9c. But sometimes it is too heavy. Plus it is not carry friendly if I want to wear light weight pants or yoga pants. I am seriously considering the Sig p938. It appears to work well wearing it in a sticky holster. I wore one around my LGS for a little over an hour. Love my 9c but the much lighter weight Sig. is going to join the rotation.

One of these.

Her work even frowns upon that but she usually has it anyway.

Normally I'd suggest a J frame but given your post have her try one of the .380 Bodyguards. I just picked up the no laser model and found it to be both reliable w/FMJ & very accurate.

First off, I'm a woman. I've owned guns for over 20 years. I carry a S&W 638 on my right hip. I usually don't use a purse (in my case, it's more like a big bag) but sometimes I use one just to help disguise the fact that I've got a big bump on my right hip. A purse can help hide the fact she's carrying.

A Glock G23 in a pistol Packin' Mamas large Hobo Bag. I didn't care for the holster that came with it ti use (velcroed in a dedicated gun compartment) so I designed my own. Theirs has NO retention abilities and the gun easily slips out of the holster and is loose in the compartment, not too good for quick access.

To any ladies reading this thread (and interested husbands), the Flash-bang is a very interesting and viable option for women. Its a holster that attaches to the bra, at the center where the cups attach to each other. The gun rides horizontally and lays flat against the body.

Its possible to wear some pretty form-fitting clothes and still hide a handgun. Some of my co-workers have bought them for their off-duty guns and really like them. Its a clam shell style holster and allows the gun to present very quickly from concealment. There are YouTube videos showing these and how quickly you can get to your piece.

Women seem to get the short end of the stick when it comes to holster selection due to their differences in build from men. These may help to level the playing field for them...

The Flashbang worked for her during the Summer. But in the Winter she likes pullover sweaters. So lately, my wife uses a Sneaky Pete to carry an LCP. It's in plain sight. The flap has a magnetic closure.

My wife uses mostly off-body carry in a holster purse.

As the tragedy up in Idaho demonstrated, it is important in this type of carry that the user keep the purse under their control at all times. Additionally, they should rigorously practice their draw since it provides several different issues than on-body carry has to deal with. When you need the gun is not the time to find out the peculiarities of your carry method.

Sneaky Pete ... I discussed it with my CCW instructor and even though it is in plain sight it is OK to use as the gun is concealed. You can't really tell there is a gun inside; could be a cell phone or whatever.
Does that make sense to everyone?
