In the last few years, I've started picking up a folding knife here and there and have a (very) small collection at this point. So far my favorite is this Spyderco "Tenacious" model (3 inch blade around $25). It is in my "other" pocket 100% of the time.

I was wondering what others here may carry. From what I have read, the S&W knives are not that great - but feel free to correct this impression.

Here's a couple shots of the Tenacious when new:

90% of the time I carry a medium sized chestunt bone handled Case Stockman- with chrome vanadium blades. :)
Just like this one...with round bolsters (but mine has a bit of wear on it, and the blades are now black):

The rest of the time, a Benchmade Kulgera.
(About as close to tacticool as I'll ever get. :p)

Kulgera...

I have my eye on the Kulgera - at around $140 (street) it would be my most expensive knife - maybe it will show up under the tree :D

Normally this one, a Mel Pardue design pre production Benchmade

Sometimes a CRKT M16-13T designed by Carson...no pic.

The camilus heat is good and the smaller version called the Blaze is good. Its a shame cammilus went under.

I was a serious knife knut for many years and for the cheaper knives the spyderco and benchmades are decent. I went to the higher end Chris Reeve sebenzas a long time ago and usually have at least one on me even if I carry a beater that may get dropped into equipoment or something. The idea of using and abusing my 300 dollar plus sebenzas is not bad but dropping one in a chopper does :(

here are a couple of mine... I designed this graphic and they made them for me for a while. Still have a few ;)

Don't have any pics, but recently bought a Smith & Wesson SWAT Assisted Opening Folder 3.7" Black Combo Edge for a little over $30 - I've been very happy with it so far (about 2 months). I've been thru several: Gerber Fast Draw and Applegate-Fairburn (the cheapo $30 one), Kershaw scallions, Chives, Leeks and a Blackout. The assisted opening Blackout was my favorite, but something about losing a $50 knife has kept me in the 'cheap' zone (I'm rough on knives and watches). IMHO a knife is more often than not used as a tool, not so much as a life-saving piece of gear - if and when it is needed in that regard, as long as it's reasonably sharp, any knife can be effective. The strongest steel on the highest-tech instrument isn't necessary for the job. I will say that once I went to a one-handed, assisted opening knife I retired all my Swiss Armies, Old Timers, and Cases.

i normally carry one of the benchmade auto's...great knife...also have a few of the S&W auto's which are fine too

My easy open Gerber.... one hand operation...

My everyday working knife is an CRKT M16-04 Tanto w/plain edge and aluminum scales. I've had it for about ten years and have put it through hell and back. The AUS 4 steel holds an exceptional edge. I sharpen it about once a month using a hard then super hard Arkansas stone followed by a finishing stone of novaculite.

Class III

A Benchmade Auto Stryker. Carried it for close to ten years. Most of the black finish is gone, the serrations are mostly sharpened out/used up,and it gets used for all those things one should not use a knife for. It still shaves the hair off my arm at a touch. The blade is a bit narrower than it used to be---:o

surprisingly useful.....Kershaw serrated Leek with assisted opening...and WAY sharp!!!!
