Happy Holidays! I have been carrying my Shield 2.0 9mm more and more. I am used to my revolvers and I know many where sighted for 158 grain.

I was curious what grain does this gun prefer in terms of POI? I have access to 115 and 124 but could get some 147 if need be. Right now I have been breaking it in with FMJ.

Thanks

It should not make much difference. I am partial to mid-weight projectiles in 9mm, but that's not really based on objective analysis. I have found that my 9mms seem to be pretty tolerant of different weights. Take a look at Doc Roberts' testing (google is your pal), pick something you can get in bulk and make sure it works in your pistol.

I have used SIG 124 gr. V-Crown in my Shield 1.0 and I am now using Hornady Critical Defense 115 Grain FTX in my Shield Plus.

I practice with 115gr. ball but carry 147gr. HST's. I like heavy for caliber, especially when it's winter with heavy clothing and such. I have never compared the accuracy of one weight over the other in 9mm defensive ammo but suspect there wouldn't be enough difference in terms of practical accuracy to concern me.

Any weight will work. You just need to determine at what range the point of impact coincides with the point of aim for each weight.

I would bet the sights are regulated to 115 grain but that's a guess. The point of impact shouldn't change too much at 124 grain.

You can find ballistic reports to support any grain over another.
At my age, I go with 'what's most comfortable to shoot' and have POA = POI.
After shooting 115gr, 124gr, 135gr and 147gr in my Shield9, 124gr fits that criteria the best, followed by 115gr (if I can't find 124gr).

For normal self defense distances it wont make any difference. If you're practicing 40+ yard mall court shooting then it will make a difference. But you'd need to practice at that range. I know that these days I'd need a wall or pillar for support for anything other than gross minute of B27 accuracy.

I've shot over 5,000 rounds with my 1.0 Shield 9. The most accurate range ammo for my Shield is, by far, Winchester NATO 124g FMJ. As for self-defense ammo, I've had to experiment a lot because my Shield is ammo-picky. Fortunately, I've found that Hornady Critical Duty 135g +P and Federal HST 147g rounds work perfectly in it. They're not quite as accurate as the Win NATO FMJ rounds, but with SD ammo, reliable functioning is everything.

Nice to know that I am not the only one who needs a support of some sort for precision shooting at longer distances as they get ol... as they mature. :D

My Shield 9 1.0 likes 124 grain best for both range and defense ammo. I've tried other weights without any problems but found I liked 124 best. Shoot 'em all to see what your Shield and you perform best with.
