I have a 15-3 with a 2" barrel. I have had it for a few years. It came with rubber grips. There was no rust under the grips, I do not remember where I got it, or if I inspected it for rust under the grips before I got it. When I got it, I took off the rubber grips and put on a pair of S&W Target Grips. I do not have any K frame square butt grips other than a few extra pairs of the S&W Targets. I have decided that the big target grips don't look right with the 2" barrel. So I am trying to decide what would be the best grip for it. I do not want rubber, I worry about rust and do not like the way they look. I am hoping for some suggestions on what and where to buy, and maybe some pictures. Many thanks for any ideas.

Waldo not sure your hand size or if it is a carry gun for you but check out Eagle Secret Service grips. There are also options on auction sites to try and get a pair of Ahrends (No longer in production) or higher end Culina or Spegel.

If you want the style that came on it, they would be the PC Magna style without the diamond at the screw location. PC Magnas have the rounded bottom (see pictures below).

The 4" Combat Masterpiece (Model 15) came with the standard square butt Magna stocks, but on the 2" version S&W used the PC type.

This is a Model 10-5 with the stocks I'm speaking of.

PC Magna stocks can be found on eBay and Gun Broker. You probably could buy a pair from a Forum member too, if you post a request in the WTB section.

PC Magnas would have likely been original as stated above...My 15-2 is in my regular EDC rotation, and I've tried all manner of grips on it...What feels best in my hand is the target grips shown below...I have no problem with concealment with what I wear, so this is its current configuration...If yours is for EDC, and you can conceal it, let it wear what's most comfy to you......Ben

My Model 10 snub square butt has S&W factory magnas & a grip adapter. Perfect fit, even for my XLG hands.

I like the look of stags with a grip adapter myself.
I do agree that with heavy loads they can be uncomfortable and larger stocks will feel better.
I shot my 19-3 with .38spl reloads in .357 cases most times.

Modified Target Grips

Here's what I did.

Found a pretty distressed set of K-square targets for about $35.

Got out the hack saw and went to work.

1) As I got 'em.
2) Removed old finish.
3) Cut 'em down.
4) Final finish.

The "feel" of a target grip, but not overly unsightly.

Ohhh , Ohhh ! I know this one !

A certain LE agency of my intimate aquaintence in 1976 purchased a few 2in M-15 for optional use by Captain & up , while everyone else used regular 4in M-15 . A friend carried one until his retirement .

Almost all the 4in guns were issued with Pachymer Grippers , the 2 inch ones retained the original Magnas .

The exception to the issue of Grippers was a handful of guns with Magnas plus Pach Grip Adapter . This was an orthopedic gun , for Ofc with tiny munchkin hands that couldn't deal with the covered backstrap of the Grippers .

I've seen and handled both . The Magnas were the same .

That's the. Answer , if the question was what was OEM .

As far as what's best and/ or what I'd recommend , the answer is a "Boot Grip" .

Eagle's Secret Service is one of those . Other than bragging on Genuine Craig Spegiel to show your OG roots , Eagle's is a decent interpretation , as are several others .

Back in the Revolver Era , it was indeed common to cut down , and rasp to taste Target Grips to be essentially a slightly elongated Boot Grip . But that was when Target Grips were $5 or $10 in the old grip box at the LGS . Nowadays they are too valuable for such shenanigans .

Collins Grips used to offer a grip that was essentially a Boot Grip , but elongated slightly below the bottom of the butt .
