I recently picked up a mint 6" 29-5 classic, it's a square butt frame with unfluted cylinder......unfortunately the box is extremely rough..... But I'm pretty sure the hogue marked grips aren't original..... Though I guess it might have come with hogues I would think they'd have been s&w marked. So did it likely come with s&w marked hogues or wood?

Judging buy the unfluted cylinder is this a classic magnum 2?

Not sure what you mean. The frame is marked 29-5.... Its a square butt frame has the heavy "classic" lugged barrel......3 T's. Doesn't have the quick change front sight..... Unfortunately the box is so beat up the label isn't completely legible, you can make out that it's a 29 and it has classic on it, but can't get the product code or read specifics on trigger, sights, or grip

But either way those were put on 29-5's the catalog has a picture of your exact gun with those exact grips on pg 202. Hope this helps.

I got this one used, no box. It was wearing these stocks. It is marked "Classic".

Thanks thawk66, I'm thinking they might indeed be original then, thanks for the tip on page 202, looking down the page I guess mine is "classic hunter reintroduction" product code 101282......description seems to match

Is the price tag what you paid? If so nice buy!

The grip in the OP are aftermarket Hogue. The grip in post #7 is correct, scalloped Hogue rubber with S&W silver medallions on both sides. If you remove the grip you should find a big, laser-etched S&W logo on the right sideplate. Nice .44 there, thundertrap, a bargain at $419.00! I have a 29-6 Classic 6-1/2" and it's a cannon.

I wish I'd gotten it for the price on the tag..... I paid a bit more, but the owner swears it's the original tag and put it away as is after purchase.

That's an interesting comment about the price tag. I bought my pre-owned 1994 29-6 Classic in February 1998. It was in near perfect cosmetic condition but the timing was bad, as though someone had tinkered with it. So it went to Nelson Ford for a full action job. I think I paid $350 for the gun and another $135 to the gunsmith. It's been a champion ever since.

These grips came with my 29-5 Classic. I bought it used so don't know if either of them are original, they are RB to SB conversions.
