I am curious to see how many prefer magnas versus other styles, and how you feel this affects shooting magnums.

I have three model 27's all have S&W smooth target grips. I like checkered grips with light target loads but prefer smooth grips with magnums.

smooth targets on my 31/2 inch nickel 27 and elk stags on my 4 inch blue 27 it realy dont matter to me about the 27s but my 4 inch 629 has houges!

If i shoot anything bigger than a 38 with smooth stocks the gun is in the weeds. Can't hold on.

All of my 27s and my one HP wear factory stocks. All of the shorter ones (6.5, 5, 4 & 3.5 models) have Magnas. The one 8" 27 has Targets.

Magnas on the 28-2 6"
Target "cokes" on the pre-28 6"
I like the targets, on the five screw, much better than the magnas. I just havn't gotten round getting another set of targets.

I have three 28s and two 27s. Target stocks are just too big for my
hands so all five have factory magnas at present. I have a set of stags
that I plan to put on my 4" 27-2 when I get around to it. At my age my
skin seems to be a bit thin and dry and if I do much shooting with any
gun with much recoil I get a bleeding crack or blister on the inside of
my thumb. I just wrap it with adhesive tape and keep shooting. Some
day i'm going to remember to tape it before it starts to bleed.

mine is a square butt pre 27 so I hAVE period correct magnas on her right now. But I also have a set of arhend retro combats sq butts sthat are the cats meow on an nframe 357. I have another set of arhends retro combats coming for mt rnd butt 27 and will not even try to put factory on that one the arhends will be the grips. I prefer wood an finger grooves.

I have two 28's, a four and a six inch. The six inch has S&W target stocks. The four inch has magna stocks. As soon as I can find a good pair, it will have the S&W target stocks. My 21-4 has the factory smooth round butt grips. I am not wild about them. I prefer the square butt configuration. My 625-2 has the standard Hogue finger groove grips. I like the way they feel, but to my eyes they leave very much to be desired in aesthetics. I have used the Pachmayer Presentation on a number of my N-frame pistols. Happily these grips work on either square or round butt revolvers. If and when I can manage it, I will almost certainly put round butt to square butt target stocks on both the 21-4 and the 625-2. If at a later date I need to carry the 21-4, I will replace the round-butt grips, but that will not likely be necessary.

My 27's and 28's wear checkered S&W target stocks for their official portraits. During actual use they have either Hogue fancy wood or Ahrend's Tactical grips. The Ahrend's Tactical are becoming my favorite N frame grip. great looking in moradillo wood.

Factory targets on my new-to-me 27. They fit the hand well, so haven't thought about replacing yet. If I see a good deal on some nice stag or other fancy stocks, I might pull the trigger, but not yet.

Lotsa wear on the left sight rib, but otherwise in very nice shape. Its a good shooter.

Checkered targets. The 27 I shoot most often is an 8-incher. It came with checkered target stocks and they work just fine. A 27 doesn't kick enough that I have to resort to smooth targets. I think someone put checkered targets on my 5-inch gun (before it got to me), and I have not bothered to change them yet, so I probably won't.

With a few exceptions, I generally do not care for magnas on N-frame guns. The modern checkered target stocks are not ideal either, but I guess they are close enough that I don't whittle on them. Once in a while they do get replaced with something fancier.

That's a pretty 27, Seamore2001. I wouldn't change a thing.

Though I love the factory targets (as well as the magnas), I just don't like shooting with them. Herrett's stocks have always been my favorite for N-frames.

27-3, factory stocks. Not too bad with .38s.

27-2, Herrett's custom Shooting Stars. Mucho better.

27-2, Herrett's Ropers, designed (re-designed?) by Skeeter Skelton. Perfect!

For some reason I've never warmed up to magna stocks except on a snub nose Revolvers so my 28's and 27's wear S&W target stocks.

On my M28-2, Grashorn stags and a BK grips adapter. On my M27-2, target stocks.

On my go-to pre-27 5 inch, an old set of Herrett Shooting Stars with skipline checkering are my favorite. Perhaps not trendy or cool but positions my middle finger farther down the grip and keeps it from getting rapped by the back of the trigger guard. Just about perfect for fast and comfortable double action shooting.

Pre 27 with Grashorns, I havent seen his ad lately. Did I miss something?

Thanks for that link, Old Corp, I've been looking for bonded ivory targets for a round butt N-frame. First ones I've seen for sale at a reasonable price with medallions.

On topic, my 4-screw 4 inch 28 has non-period football targets.
