I read all the posts in this thread, because I've been going around and around with myself, trying to decide on what I want to make my primary carry. I have a number of pistols, most of which I don't want to carry on a regular basis, because of size and because they are "nice." Which leads me to several comments I read, that go somewhat like: "I carry (gun) because I don't mind it going to a police evidence locker if need be." I can relate to that, because I wouldn't want to lose one of my "nice" pistols, BUT...my "nice" pistols are also my best and most reliable.
So, do I carry something that is "just ok and I won't mind losing" to the police or a thief, or do I carry something that is top quality and utterly reliable? When my life is on the line, the thought of losing the gun is secondary to losing my life.
I like the thought of carrying a Taurus PT111 (for example) in my car, versus my S&W 3913 TSW, for the reasons stated above...but I trust the S&W more than I do the Taurus. On the other hand, I wouldn't worry about the Taurus being stolen or seized by authorities (of course, I wouldn't want to lose any gun, but it wouldn't bother me as much.)
Ideally I would never need to use a weapon anywhere other than the firing range, and in my (approaching) 60 years I never have, but the world is less ideal every day...so, the conundrum continues.
Oh, and as for what I usually carry now: in the car, I usually carry my M&P45c, or my 3913. In my pocket, I like the Ruger LCR (in .357 but loaded with .38 JHPs.)
