What handgun do you pick up?

In the night table open drawer are a Colt Agent .38 and a Glock 17, I'll probably replace the Colt with a S&W 686 I have already. The plan (hopefully never needed) is to pick up the revolver first them the Glock.
I live on a bad curve in the road, a couple of times a year or more we have a car in the ditch, or the yard. They are usually drunk, I always call the sheriff and slip the revolver in a pocket before going out to see what's going on.

I do live in Holland. We are supossed not to defend our self.

If I let one handgun out of the safe to protect my self and I do use it to shoot an intruder I am in serious trouble.

But if I was aloud to do so. I pick my 681 with 4 inch barrel. As back up my model 60 and model bodyguard.

But this only in my dreams.

I've got to ask. Just what might someone breaking into your house have to do to justify your shooting them? Are you justified after they kill someone? What are your laws regarding self defense?

I know I won't hear for a week if ever used, a .357 magnum 2inch snubby, and a tactical 12 gauge.

A 442 is the 'always' gun and my old duty Security Six in the bureau-top safe. May bump up the ante one of these days.

I upgraded the door locks a few years ago which was a worthwhile investment IMHO.

My nightstand gun is my M-19, the Lovely and Charming has "our" M-60, and there is an M-586 in the same room. I have 2 speed strips for each .357 Magnum right next to them. Silly perhaps, but its' better to have and not need, than to need and not have.

Two weeks ago a local pharmacy was robbed. The miscreant ditched his car in the neighborhood and was seen entering the wooded area north us. We were warned to stay inside and keep our doors locked. I really didn't even thInk about it. My simple 642 went into my front pocket and my bead sight 870 loaded w/ 00 came out of the safe. All of the red dot, laser, telescopic tacticool was completely ignored. Funny thing , it is a combo I have consistently gone to since the mid seventies.

The person in question was found a couple of days later expired apparently due to over indulging on his spoils.

If a demented leprechaun, a probe wielding grey, or some other nefarious individual (most likely bigfoot, a troll, or some flying monkeys) were to jump through my window right now, they’d be greeted by my surprised face and my Astra .44 loaded with specials. Why? Because it’s sitting on the desk next to me since I’m looking for a holster for it. I also have my BG .380 on the desk as well.

At night, whilst I slumber, my G27 rests in a retention holster I have mounted to the wall side of my bed frame. However, this hasn’t been the case for the past few nights since it’s packed away in the case waiting to be traded for a G22. I don’t use the 27 as a CCW anymore, so I’m going full sized. Instead, my 681 has been sleeping next to me. This lead to an awkward moment when my G27 walked in last night.....

Oh no, you brought up the flying monkeys again!

Guess I would have to use my Glock 22 with 180 gr HP's.

Eh, we are talking pistolas.

In the bedroom I have a Colt Series 70 in one of those trick holsters with an extension that goes between the magtress and box springs. The pistol has night sights and is cocked and locked. In the study, where the computer is, there's a Ruger Security Six with 125 gr Federal HPs. Next to where I sit in the living room there's an end table in whose drawer lives a 625 in 45 Colt, loaded with HPs big enough to stick your finger into. In the gun room there's a Glock 36 with Federal 230 gr HPs.

Can you say eclectic?

I practice with them, without oiling or otherwise doing any maintenance before firing. to know how they'll perform in their normal condition.

Oh...you said "handgun" didn't you?

My only handgun. 686+ pro. .357s will take care of most threats. Plus on only my third range trip I'm lighting the target up.

A 40 caliber Sig 250 compact by my bed. A S&W model 60 38 snubbie for the wife. A .380 Bersa thunder cc in my work shop and a .380 Taurus 738 with a pocket holster in the pickup truck. My back up to those is the two fists that god gave me.

90% of the time...

...in home or out is my Kimber .45. Backup is my closet Ruger Mini or the Remington 12 gauge with sidesaddle. My Lady sleeps with her Model 64 and carries her 442. As a precaution, my KEL-TEC mouse gun in .380 sleeps in the pickup. On occasion, I'll carry a 66, 624 or a Ruger Super Blackhawk, usually when I hit the "trail". I've carried a lot of different guns over my career including a Mini-Uzi, H&K MP5, a Beretta 93R, but the Kimber is my favorite...big, flat and accurate!

Most carried is an S&W M&P 45 mid with a thumb safety. When I'm in revolver mode it is a Model 65 three inch. When the weather isn't conducive to large gun carry a 342 rides in my right front pocket.

I carry 1911's--cocked and locked. Most comfortable carry I can find.
All kinds of loaded guns at home, in different places---but you don't get a choice of what you get shot with if'n you try and break in.
Blessings

686 on my side, 910 on the other. 12 ga in the closet with oo buck. A chocolate lab, a noisy yorkie and a wife with a mean streak, who could be safer.:D
