629-2E serial number BEE 52xx

No box or papers and It was very expensive.

I think I`m suffering a case of buyer`s remorse, but I haven`t shot it yet and I may get over the illness with the first shot.

Thanks for any info you good folks can provide.

Jack

Very nice - I'd say it dates to the late 1980's, maybe 1989. Go shoot it - you'll feel better just like I did after shooting my new to me 29-3 yesterday.

Details in seperate thread on this forum.

P. 258 of the SCS&W describes the 629 3" Classic Hunter: Full lug barrel, Pachmayr grips, unfluted cylinder, .500" target hammer, .400 smooth combat trigger, 3200 manufactured in Sept 1989

Looks like a nice one!

It is as Charles describes it. The 629-2E was the very beginning of the enduurance package for the 629 series of guns. The 29-3E was the blued counterpart. Neither one has all the endurance package, but rather, just the first step in it with the hardened yoke and lengthened yoke bearing pads.
I owned one just like yours with the 6" barrel in 1988 when it first came out.

Nice!

I really like it! I'm not sure what "expensive" means, but what you have there is a great package in my eyes. I would bring some 44 specials to the range with it along with the Magnum rounds. Nice find!

Thank you all for the great data.
I shot it today and it really is sweet.I was shooting my reloads: 240 gr LSWC at about 900 ft per sec.
I honestly couldn`t tell much difference between it and my 6" 629.
Shooting D/A or S/A most every shot was in the black at 30 feet.
It`s a keeper.
Expensive IS $625 and a brand new in the box ,unfired Ruger Mk2.
I had the Ruger for about 15 years and can`t remember what I paid for it.
No matter it`s mine now and I plan to enjoy it no matter how much it cost.
This is a great forum. Thanks for allowing me to participate.

You did put plenty of money into your 629-3E. However they do not grow on trees like the MK II and MK III Rugers do. You can replace the Ruger with no problem with an even better one. It might be hard finding another 629 like you have now, with out spending as much or more than you have in this one.

Enjoy it, and don't look back. I have one N frame that I have spent over $400 on after buying it new. I might or might not be able to get my money back out of it. No big deal, it is not for sale anyway.

$625+ your MK II is probably what the going rate is, maybe a little more. I recently sold a 696 for $875 and bought a 625 for a little under $700 so a pre lock 3" 29/629 in the $900 range it'nt outside reality. I saw a 3" 629 Backpacker a few months ago at a LGS for $800+tax, no box or anything and no budging on the price.
