I have never bought an used gun. What if I were interested in a used gun listed on one of the websites? Is it possible to ask for input from members experienced with buying used guns? How would I identify the website and product number? I don't want to cross any boundaries, I love this forum and don't want to cause a problem.

What he said is true and accurate HOWEVER if you post it on an open forum, there will be 10, 20 or 30 times as many who read what you say and don’t offer help, but they may very well chase down whatever you are looking at and buy it out from under you.

I have purchased several guns through different websites. Usually there is buyer protection. I do not have personal experience needing it though. If I am plunking down hundreds if not thousands of dollars, I tend to scrutinize and ask any questions. Any answers I did not find satisfactory, I would say Caveat Emptor.
I have had a long history with my FFL which is important should a problem arise.

You needn't hesitate to ask questions here about a gun you are interested in buying. We are always ready to assist a fellow S&W fan with questions. What you may not do is post a link to the auction if it is currently active. Pictures of the gun for sale are okay if they do not link to the auction itself.

There may be some who lurk here who would jump ahead of you and grab up the gun, but it doesn't happen often, and it isn't worth worrying over. It is far more likely you will get significant help in making your decision. Most of the guys (and gals) here are honest and will stay out of your business (meaning they will be glad to let you spend your money on the gun of your interest). If you decide not to pursue a certain purchase, and say so, someone else might then ask where the gun is and go for it themselves. Even then, you may not post a link, but can use the PM feature to point the way.

So, ask away.

You might want to check the forum rules or ask a moderator before posting a link to a specific gun on GunBroker. If they allowed that there is always the risk this forum would be flooded with fake posts made by people trying to generate more interest in what they are selling.

But other than that I am sure you will get a lot of help here.
