One of our club member lost his job a while ago and hasn't had much success in finding another job. With the holidays approaching he is in the process of selling couple of his guns to get some extra cash. He sold a Colt revolver last week and he got maybe 60% of what it is worth as people know he is desperate to sell it so they took advantage of the situation.

I told him to let me know next time he wants (has) to sell his guns as I will pay him fair value. He told me he has a pair of 4" S&W 586-4 revolvers that he is going to sell next. I've seen them before and they are both beautiful revolvers. They are both in about 95%+ condition with factory target grips but no box. Each revolver has fired 25 rounds since purchasing them new.

What would you say is a fair value of these revolvers?

Just for reference I purchased a 586 no dash, no box or papers, in nickel a few months back that I paid $450 from a fellow forum member. I checked the prices on GB and that seemed to be in the low to mid range that completed sales were going for.

There are many offered at much higher prices but they stay on the auction for a long time. Check the classified in this forum and the auction sites to see the price of completed sales.

I think $375 - $400 would be a good price for you, and a better price for him than he would get at a pawn shop or gun show.

Good for you for not wanting to screw him over.

I went to see both revolvers this morning and they were as described. First one looked new with no cylinder ring mark and the second one has very light cylinder mark and a light scratch on the cylinder from laying on a cardboard box. Both had the factory wood target grip and they were perfect.

We agreed to $475 for the first one and $425 for the second one for total of $900 for both. I think it was good deal for both of us.

He only asked that if I decide to sell either revolver in future to let him know first so he has the first shot at buying them back.

:) good price at your end b/c may be U fine some gun for better price but this gun is help some one.
I did same thing like your firend I sold my gun to someone I know and tell him that if he want to sale it ...
Let me know fisrt b/c I should have a frst shot at my own gun(use to be)for same price that I get. :)

Prices are down and the sales are slow so I would say $400 to $450 is a fair price. Last January that was a $500 gun easy but times have changed.

I can always find a better deal... I can't always find better people.
