I like to shoot mine pretty hot, therefore, I have target stocks on them.
Pre 27 from 1954 on top. 27-2 from 1965 on bottom. Honestly, I'd like to have a few more of them.

I would have to say that a 3 1/2" Model 27 is sexy, if you could call a gun sexy- the profile is just plain classic.....

If you ask me ......the 8" + is a whole lot "sexier" !
Not all of us can claim were packin an eight incher -so I reckon more of us are comfortable with only 3 1/2 "

I have never owned a 3 1/2" 357. I do have a 5" 27-2, had other ones in 5" and 8 3/8". One of the most attractive guns I ever handled was a pre 27 3 1/2" 357. My mentor that got me started was a big time smith collector. His favorite was a 3 1/2" pre 27. For all that I know it might have been a registered mag. He got it off the widow of a captain I belive he said the san francisco PD, but I could wrong. It had a small round gold badge like the texas rangers on the sideplate and had rubys inset between the star points. Was about the size of a quarter. Also had very fancy carved ivory magna style grips. Had a king cockeyed hammer, and king mirror front sight. He had hundreds of guns but that was the one he slept with. Think he had bolin make him a rig for it. If he was alive duke would be about a hundred now.

Well, not everyone likes them. I can certainly see the utility of them, but not the aesthetics. Beauty is indeed in the eye of the beholder; and to me, big cylinders and frames demand proportionally big[read: long] barrels in order to look 'right'. Five inch is the shortest I like -six is better still.

Not only is it the best looking length (IMHO), it also has the best balance. The thing just feels good in the hand and points naturally. If I go to the range, hang out a B27 at 10 yards, and close my eyes, I'll put 5 of 6 in the critical zone. With a Glock, I'd shoot out the lights.

2" to 3.5" barrels are my favorites on revolvers.
I like the 3.5" Ns the same way I like the 3" Ks.

...so an opinion poll...who would have preferred that the 3.5" 27s had a Round butt instead of a Square...

I've had 3 5", one 6" and a 8 3/8"....think the reason I have never had the 3.5" is I would have liked it with the Round butt...but will buy the right 3.5 for the right price one day...
