What is it?

I was walking down some old train tracks and I found a large rubber cylinder. It is a solid piece of black rubber, 18.5" long by 2" wide. There is a seam down the sides and on both ends so it was purposely molded into this specific size. Anybody have any ideas what it is for?

Could possibly be a Johnson rod or maybe a discarded muffler bearing. Might find it at Replacement : KaleCoAuto, Hard to find automotive items! , they have all the hard to find parts.
