Going through a drawer of "quality, irreplaceable" junk and found this. Does anyone know what it is? I don't think it is gun related.

How big is it? Looks like some type of cleat or hook to grab something

It's about 5 inches long. I thought maybe a meat hook but it's not sharp.

I know you're looking for someone who knows the answer, but may I guess?

I'm guessing that it is a movable hanger for some specialized purpose, maybe for horses' halters in a barn for racehorses?? Unlike most hooks/hangers, the bottom of the hook is wide and flat, indicating that whatever hangs on it is also wide and flat.

Oh well, so much for my lame attempt at an answer.

Honestly I don't know what it is either. I'm just trying to tap from the keg of knowledge that is the SW Forum.

Hoof picks and caulking irons for planked vessels are pretty interchangeable... and sold to both markets. I've bought hook picks marked WC for Wilcox-Crittendon. I have expereience with both. I've not seen one exactly like that but I'll lean towards caulking iron if I had to choose.
The hook is used to pull old cotton caulking out before replacing it. There are separate wide chisle type tools used with mallots to hammer it in, but I could see using this tool as a starter.

Hay hooks normally have the handle perpendicular to the direction of the hook. I don't think it's a hay hook. From the looks of it it'd make a lousy hoof pick as well. The end of the handle would get in your way cleaning out a hoof.
I'm going with some kind of specialized hanger.

Ditto. Not a 'hoof pick' I'd ever want to use.

Thanks for all the input so far. Now I know I'm not the only one scratching my head on this one!

... you use a pair of these to pull on tall riding boots.

Didn't Colt Firearms have some manufacturing capability in England before the Civil War, hence the term "London Colts".
