what is my model 638 made of?

I have a model 638-3, DCS0XXX. The barrel and cylinder appear to be shinny-er and darker (more silver) than the frame. Frame is light grey and appears to be brushed aluminum in color.

QUESTION: What kink of metal is the frame and cylinder & barrel made out of?

Is any of it stainless steel?

Yes your 638 has some stainless steel in it. The frame is aluminum alloy, and the cylinder and barrel are Stainless.

Be advised that the frame finish is actually some sort of paint that has a reputation for being susceptible to damage by some common cleaning solvents.

I believe that the barrel and cylinder are stainless and the frame is aluminum alloy. Certain small parts might also be stainless. The hammer and trigger, however, should be case hardened carbon steel.
