What is the favorite 2.5" Model 19?

I have a 1955 Pre-27 and a 1975 27-2.

I definately like the Pre-27 more. Better for me in terms of finish, non-target trigger and age.

What is the comparable 2.5" or 4" Model 19?

Model 19-5 2 1/2" isn't too shabby.

Here is the same 19-5 with Executioner's grips on it along with it's little brother 640-1 outfitted the same way

What version of the Model 19 is considered the favorite.

Further to my original post, the Post War Pre 27 .357 Magnum seems just about perfect. (even though it costs 1/5 of a Registered Magnum)

What is considered the "best" version of the Model 19?

My 19-6 is one of my favorite guns. They make excellent concealed weapons.

I like all Model 19's but prefer them with P&R'd barrel cylinders.
That being said any Model 19 before the dash 5 will be P&R.

I prefer Pre model marked guns made before 1957 .
As the models progressed they became more numerouse and less exclusive.
In other words I value a pre 19 higher than a 19 and a 19-2 higher than a 19-3.

I think "best" can be a pretty subjective thing. If one of my guns "feels" right to me, operates smoothly, and hits where I aim consistently- it's the best of it's type, to me.

You are asking too subjective a question. Opinions will differ, and the goal may be just to find an especially well-fitted and finished example of whichever dash mark it is.

Overall, many members will prefer P&R guns, but overall QC may favor a later one. Outstanding ones have been made in many time periods. They just got more care than others made the same day.

The snub versions didn't arrive until the '60's, so don't look for a pre-19.

I have a very nice 19-5 and I can't compare it any other dash number because I don't have another. This is pinned but not recessed. It shoots very well, comfortable even with the the stock grips.

That's because I lied. No pins, indeed. I confused two recent purchase, the 19-5 and a 64-3. which IS pinned but not recessed. Oops!

I have seen some transitional K Magnums that were pinned but not recessed but You will not find a .38 caliber Smith that is recessed,
that feature was usually reserved for Magnums and .22lr guns only...

That being said, my current favorite is my only one, a Model 19-5.

They are all fine revolvers, but most collectors want pristine, early versions . . . and that's virtually always true within all the various models/changes . . . if they want to preserve safe queens.

I have a 19-4 with a 2/12" ( my EDC) and a 19-8 with a 4" barrel. I think I like the -8 the best, that being said they are both truly great weapons.

I've been thinking I "need" a nickel 2 1/2" m19. After looking at those here I know I "need" one!
