I recently acquired a S&W Revolver, 22 LR, 6" barrel, No model number but S/N on butt is K290XXX
Barrel has stamped on it "22 Long Rifle CTG"
I need to replace the ejector rod and associated parts. I was told it was a K22/17.
Any assistance will be appreciated

It is a K22 and would later be called a model 17 after 1957. If it was made before 1955 it would have the 5th screw on top of the side plate just below and in front of rear sight. Pre model marked should use right hand thread extractor rod. I have one marked K3087xx from about 1957 and it is missing that screw (4 screw model) and is non model marked. Yours being about 18,000 in front of mine should narrow it down around 1956 and be a 4 screw to, but possibly a late 5 screw from 1955?

4th Edition of the Standard Catalog of Smith and Wesson says your revolver was shipped in 1957 (Serial Number range K288989-K317822), which was about the time Smith and Wesson made the transition between named models and numbered models.

So what I think you have is a K-22 Masterpiece (postwar, 3rd Model - PreModel 17.)

Can't help you with a source for the parts you need. Others with more knowledge and experience will be along with recommendations and sources of parts.

Could you help me out with where you find the serial number years in the Standard catalog. I see after it talks about the gun it gives some references via certain interesting manufactures r changes, then the production codes. Where do I find better dates. Thanks

The serial number ranges by year are toward the back of the book. Sorry, I would give you the starting page but my copy is out on loan.

I have a 4 screw K-22 with K311xxx on it (sorry, I'm not inclined to dig it out of the safe right now to get the complete number). It shipped in 1957 and is not model marked. No one that I know of has ever reported an actual Model 17 that shipped before 1958. That goes for other models as well.
