Liquor.
I will start. I have paid $200 a bottle for: Macallan 1861 Replica, Johnnie Walker Blue and a JW 21 year old,Chivas Royal Salute 21, Aberfeldy 21.
Over $100 a bottle for Johnnie Walker Gold, Platinum, The Spice Road and The Royal Road.
I am now too old to drink cheap whiskey.
Added 4/25/20 That said, I frequently try new brands based more on whim than price. Cheaper bottles are always tried straight because they might be hidden gems, but can always be used in mixed drinks. The really good ones only have a bit of water or ice added then are enjoyed slowly. I also love sharing with friends. Good whiskey with good friends is time well used.

$175 for Glenfarclas 25 year old.

$135 for Lagavulin Cask Strength 12 year old.

$125 for Balvenie Single Barrel 15 year old Sherry Cask.

Let's also mention what I have not yet paid:

Anywhere near the $1.9 million paid last October at a Sotheby's auction in London for this 1926 Macallan, the current record :)

Cheap

i am a cheap date .the inexpensive spirits are just fine for me . went to a superbowl thing at the home of one of my wifes friends . the wife made some sort of eats of course and i stopped by the liquor store and got a bottle of crown royal . that's about as far as i will go pricewise . the husband asks do i like whiskey . yes says i . he went to the freezer and took out a bottle that was frozen in a block of ice . looked like he put it in some tupperware with water and froze it . he told me how good it was and how expensive as i sipped on mine . good whiskey no doubt but better than the crown , not to me . i must still need a little polishing .heathen i guess . 1 taste and back in the freeze . i brought the crown for the house but did drink most of it before we left . kenny MT USA :D

I've only passed over the $100 mark a couple of times.

No. 1 reason? I'm afraid I may really like it.

I'm primarily a bourbon drinker, there's a plethora of sub $60 and several sub $30 bottle that I really enjoy.

$90 Booker's is where the laws of diminishing returns peak for me.

Scotch? While I may enjoy a pour of coal tar/nasty gym socks and iodine on occasion, this is one rabbit hole I refuse to go down!

Yikes !! A $75.00 bottle of Belvedere Vodka once a year is my limit ( and we drink it.):)

$100 for a bottle of 21-year-old Glenfarclas Scotch whisky. This was around 15 years ago. It was the only Scotch I've tried that I liked.

I've preferred bourbon, but haven't really bought any high-end stuff. Probably the most expensive I bought was Maker's Mark, which was probably in the $30something range for a 750ml bottle. When I had the money, I've sought out some Blanton's Single Barrel, but could never find a liquor store that had any in stock. Price tags on the shelves have ranged from $56 to $109. A few years ago I got a shot for $21. That was the last time I had any Blanton's.

Unfortunately, can't really have alcohol any more. :(

I don't drink.....

...but a few years ago I bought some Hennessy as a gift and I'd like a bottle just to open it up and smell it every once in a while. I'd better be careful if it tastes like it smells.

Some years back I went a little crazy and bought a bottle of Balvenie for around $450.

I can't remember which one it was, but it was 20 years plus. Balvenie is a Speyside Single Malt and one of my perennial favorites.

My sister (who I was living with at the time) thought I was barking. My brother in law (also a fan of Scotch) was scared to have a glass due to the cost, so I poured him a large one.

I wanted to see if expensive Scotch was wort it....it was..:)

Cheerio,

Roy

I paid $24 for a shot of Jameson at the bar at the top of World One Tower. Does that count?

Back in the ‘70’s, I think that I paid around $3.00 for a mixed drink (a “screwdriver)! :D memtb

I actually prefer Scotch, but I'm not a big spender. Spent just under $50 for a bottle as a gift, then decided I better know if it's any good before giving it to a friend, so I bought another for myself. It was tasty for sure, but like someone else said, I think of the S&W's I could be buying with the money, and they will still be here a month later to enjoy. The booze would likely be gone,..... forever.

Then I use up shelf space to display the fancy bottles (I may put colored water, or tea in them). The shelf space is at a premium in the gun room, so buying some $25-$30 scotch , I end up with duplicates & throw them out.

I'm a cheap baster.
