Terry! STUNNING photos and presentation as always! Wonderful old S&W's too! Thanks for sharing your talents and your taste!

My oldest S&W is a .31 cal iron frame (Volcanic style) round butt pistol, made about 1855. My Brownie Box camera is digitally challenged and can't come up with a pic to post, but take a look at page 30, bottom photo, in "History of S&W" by Jinks (7th printing) for a picture of the gun. And, regardless of the opinion of certain jealous members of this forum, I did not buy the gun new!

Did you get it from the guy who did?

Lee, Come to think of it, the guy I got it from was pretty old and said he inherited the gun as a young man. Said his name was Horace Smith , Jr. I got the gun cheap, however, as I pulled the old "It's a fake" trick. It always works with sellers that don't know their S&Ws, if they have an early Iron frame for sale. It works like this: Tell them to read the patent date on the barrel. It says patented Dec. 25, 1849. ( That's the Jennings patent). Then I ask them how many Gov't offices do they know of that are open on Christmas day? I tell them the gun faker made a mistake with that stamping and I get the gun for a substantial discount! No charge for the Gunology 101 lesson, my friend! Ed.

Hey Combat, Re your 3594x S&W 1st Model Safety Hammerless: mine is about 7600 pistols "older" than yours and was shipped in Jan 1892. Ergo, mine was probably (?) made in 1890-91 and, guessing, yours was made in 1892-3. The last of these were produced in 1900. Ending sn was about 91500. I intend to fire mine using Winchester 88gr .32 S&W. Regards, Ray

PS: It is my oldest S&W, Nickel with black grips.

THANKS,Ray THANKS a lot.I've been wondering how old that gun was a long time.

Thanks!

.22 Perfected Single Shot. Roy says it was shipped in 1916. I bought it about two years ago.
