Hi,

What is the rate of twist for Model 57, 41 Magnum?

It the rate of twist for the Model 58, 41 Magnum the same as the Model 57 41 Magnum?

Thanks,

505Gibbs, thank you for your response.

Do you know what is the twist rate for the Model 57?

1:20 is what some test centers use in their 10" barreled test guns for developing performance data.

Different manufacturers probably use different twist rates, but it is likely S & W used the same rate for all .41 Magnums. If you call the factory and ask to speak to someone in the Performance Center (aka gunsmithing shop), they may even tell you.

Just about every S&W revolver that I know of has a 1 in 18-3/4 twist rate except for the .45s, which have a 1-16, and the 9mm 627s, which have a 1 in 10. There may be others, I don't know them all.

Hornady's Tenth Edition reloading manual, under .41 Magnum load data, lists the M57 6" as their test gun, with a 1:18.75" twist. When I look down the barrels of my M57 and M58, side by side, the twist rate is the same.
