I recently picked up this little glass thingy, but cannot figure out what its purpose is.
Two pieces. Bottom piece is a plate with a handle-less cup on it. Top piece is a clear dome, with a little knob on top to use as a handle to lift the dome.
Both pieces are clear glass.
The dome is larger than the cup, so it must go OVER the cup.
If the dome was smaller, so it went INSIDE the cup, it would be a butter bell. That's actually what I thought it was when I first saw it.
But for a butter bell, the cup holds water, and the top, which is full of butter, goes INSIDE the cup, with the water preventing the butter from spoiling while it sits on the counter.
Also, the dome of this is thicker than the plate-and-cup, and much heavier.
edit: size might help. The dome is about 2 1/2 inches in diameter, and about three inches high. It is larger than the cup by about 1/4 inch all around, and maybe 1/2 inch taller, so the cup is about 2 diameter by 2 1/2 tall.
