What is your favorite handgun caliber?

Colt SAA, I've admired your collection for awhile now. Thanks for showing it off again.

1) .44 Special Keith/Skelton loads in Mag cases in my Model 69
2) .45 ACP. (Sorry, I know it's bottom feeder, but only a 1911 is acceptable. No Matel wonders allowed.)
3) .357 Mag
4) .22 LR

Wish list:
1) .45 Colt

I shoot more rounds of 38spl than anything else but my real love is the 41mag. Really gets attention at the range when an old lady runs off 6 rounds of those in about 12 seconds.

I guess I have to say the .44 Magnum, but not for any practical reason.
I live in Central Texas, and there is no predator that can't be dealt with using a .357 Magnum.

But, at the range, nothing gets my 70 year old heart pumping adrenaline like the .44 Magnum does.

All my other calibers have practical applications, and a function to serve.

When I was a kid, I usually had a few bucks. Dad gave me a whole five acres to farm as I saw fit. Dad's tractor and gas, it was easy to show a profit. An often broke uncle would use me as a pawn shop. A loan required his handgun of the time as collateral, and for a few years that was a Stoger Luger with an American eagle on the forward receiver. Caliber 7.65. Uncle was required to supply ammo with the gun. I shot that ammo and considered it interest. I learned to really like the 7.65. Another one he had that would be keen now was a Colt SAA in .38-40. Looking back, we both could have been looking at jail time, but no one seemed to mind at the time.

The older I get the more time I want to be out and abou, t, so I have narrowed my shooting down to three calibers; two of which I reload for!
44 Spl at 1,000 fps will do everything I need a field hand gun to do. 38 Spl in a Colt's OMM for static target work. These two guns I reload for and the third is 9mm, for SD. Purchase all the 9mm ammo. Been shooting handguns for 57 years and it's come down to these three.

Favorite?

Let's see now? I have revolvers for and reload for; 44 mag, 41 mag, 45LC, 45ACP, 357 Mag, 10mm, 40 S&W, 38 Spl, 38 Super, 32 Long, 32 H&R Mag, 22 Jet, .224 Harvey Kay-Chuk, but my favorite is the one I shot last or maybe it's the one I'm going to shoot tomorrow? Oh hell, it's all them!

My vote always has and always will go to the .357 magnum. IMHO it is the best "all around" handgun cartridge as it has the best power-to-weight ratio.

EDIT: Oh yeah, my fav autoloader cartridge is the .38 Super...mainly because it closely approaches the ballistics of a .357 magnum.

Favorite Caliber?

The .22 caliber is first both in revolvers & semi-automatics. Then next I have come to really appreciate the .32 caliber offerings in .327 Mag., .32 H&R Mag., and the .32 S&W Long all from the same revolver, the .32/20 isn't far behind them but appropriate ammunition has been tough to come by and expensive.

I got to go with 357/38 also. Great shooting either way and too many different bullet configurations to try. The old HBWC 148g for soft easy shootin and a 158g hollow point that is plated to wake up the young whipper snappers in the indoor range! Also like the 30/30 for all round capabilities in a rifle.

My favorite handgun round is the 40 S&W for semi auto and 22LR for revolvers.

Sig Model P226 in 40 S&W

You do know that picking just one caliber with this group is not going to happen. I tend to carry a 357 when I carry a revolver, a 9mm when I carry a semi. At the range I shoot the 45acp in 1911s more than anything else. I guess that makes the 45 acp the favorite. 38 spec are tough to beat though.
