What is your favorite handgun caliber?

Is "all of them" too general an answer? ;)

I love 1911s, and they have to be chambered for .45 ACP, so my favorite caliber in 1911 is .45 ACP.

My favorite revolver caliber is .44 special, BUT since I don't reload and don't plan to start, and factory ammo is expensive (especially if you have to pay for shipping) I just can't go that way. The only one I've ever owned that was even more difficult for me to find was a S&W Texas Wagon Train model in .44-40...beautiful revolver, but so frustrating trying to find ammo. This was some years ago, so it may be easier to find online now, but it wasn't then. By default, then, my favorite revolver caliber is .357/.38 for its utility and versatility, and you can find it virtually everywhere.

For carry and general all around gun fun, I'm going to say 9mm. It's inexpensive, comes in a good assortment of bullet weights and configurations, and widely available. Modern ammo performs acceptably too. I am getting ready to buy a M&P 2.0 Compact 9mm, for the best combination of portability, capacity, functionality, and range use.

As I have an equal number of 9mm's and 38 Specials in the safe, I guess it's a tie.

Having survived three deadly force encounters armed w/my issued .38 you could say it is my favorite due to an emotional attachment. I do own a Glock 17 & LCP, but my thirty-eight remains my go-to gun.

1969-Young Marine in Vietnam....45acp
1972- young LEO......357 magnum
1981-older and wiser LEO .....45 acp( 1911)
2017- old retired LEO with arthritis......22 lr

Getting old is not for sissies!

I own 9, 40, 45, and 22 caliber handguns.

But my favorite all time round for handguns (and anything else really) is the 22. It's just too much fun. And very economical.

I have 38, 357, 44sp. 44Mag, 45 auto, 9mm and .22's. I carried a .357 for many years on duty .45 auto for many years on duty and now often carry a 9mm but I shoot all of them. I think that if I had to choose, I would say a .45auto followed by .44sp.

gut reaction is 45 acp.

however, 9 is fun, and 10 is just awesome.

(really wish they would make an m&p in it....never gonna happen)

41 & 44 special

I just love loading and shooting for my model 58 in 41 special starline brass.

Or 44 special in my model 29s.

I like 38 specials going shooting with the wife

and 9mm in IDPA

last not least 45 acp in my baer, 4.7 BE the most accurate ever.

rock chucker

BUT since I don't reload and don't plan to start,

get a used rock chucker and a die set for $75 total and some brass. It's really easy and much fun. You'll like it. You'll have a dillon 550b a year later....

Choice by necessity

The loaded one in my hand when I need it.

In the continued search for diversity a M18 4", M10 2", Sig 1911 45 ACP, Para Elite 1911 45 ACP, and American Tactical Thunderbolt 1911 45 ACP have joined the herd. Continued examples of my inability to say no to a good price. :(
