What kind of knife do you carry, if any?

I've handled Piranha (don't recall which model) but while a well made knife, that exact example didnt speak to me. Their reputation had preceeded them, which is why I had my dealer show it to me. My comment about your Pro-tech's possibly not being the best knives in that picture was referring the Piranha.

I love my Pro-techs. I have 3 or 4 now, many others over the years. I'm all about their Custom Steel TR-3s. They take a well designed knife and make it a great tool. My TR3's have always been steel handled.

Just like my firearms, my knives tend to have a bit of "pimp" thing going on. Nice thing about that stainless is how easy it is to bring that mirror finish back after its seen some pocket time. This knife sees a lot of use/carry.

I've carried a pocket knife for 60 years or so. Growing up on a small farm, there were many uses for a pocket knife. I have a Boker Tree Brand Classic I carried for over 30 years. Thought I lost it...searched for couple days and couldn't find it. So I bought a Buck 3 blade folder. Less than a week after I bought the Buck, I found my Boker. The Boker is now put away and the Buck is my everyday carry.
Nothing special. Just couple of good, sharp blades for the little cutting needs I do. My only problem is going to MSU football and basketball games where I have to leave my knife in the truck!!

The Pro-Tech Godson has the fastest blade deployment I've ever experienced. SCARY fast. :D

I learned as a young boy that you never left the house without a knife and also some means to start a fire. As an adult I added a .357 to the list. For the last 30 years I have carried a 4 inch Gerber, Rex Applegate Combat Folder. Never had to use it in "combat". It is a very rugged well built knife that, in addition to cutting, is often used as a pry bar, hammer, screw driver, ice breaker, leather punch, paint scraper, eating utensil, hole borer, splinter remover and tooth pick. It is always in my pocket on "hot standby" eagerly awaiting its next task.

4/81 EDC Knife

Same knife for 4 decades. Hand built to my specs, by the machined part inspector at Keyport Nuclear Sub base (Frank was the man), with the only mad money I had in college. 440C liners and pins, 154CM blade, ambidextrous nail nick, file worked spine, coil spring adjustable lock back, with coffin edged lignum vitae scales and 440C bolsters.

(Some how I forgot to attach TR3 images to my prior post - I fixed that)

I don't carry my Godson primarily for that reason. It deploys so fast, I fear it will jump out of my hand. The steel scales of the TR3 add enough weight to the equation that I don't have the same concern.

Having said that, I've never had a Pro-tech jump out of my hand, nor have I dropped one. It's probably all in my head.

The other reason my Godson is never carried is that while technically a tuxedo, she wears scrimshawed elephant ivory scales, which host a Robert Eggerling Damascus blade.

I carry the TR3 and leave the Godson at home.FB_IMG_1650668436712.jpgFB_IMG_1650668765360.jpgFB_IMG_1650668339658.jpg

That is a fantastic and well made knife. I have several Applegate designed Gerbers. You are a testament to how well knives in general and Gerber specifically were made back then.

Seems like you used it for everything it was not intended and she preformed well. Don't try that with a Gerber made in the last 5 or 10 years.

I carry a 4" lockblade pocket knife. Not for self defense, but for anything else. I am 75 years old and have been carrying a pocket knife since I was in Cub Scouts. A pocket knife was almost a necessity in my line of work.

SOG Pentagon XR. Awesome opening and closing action. Tho I have a pretty good collection, I've added only SOG and Buck knives over the last few years. Oh, I also carry a Gerber Dime multitool. This little thing is very handy.

I boot carry a Randall Triathlete and have a Leatherman Crunch in an IWB mag holder that I repurposed for the multi tool and keep clipped to my belt.

Cheap knives

I used to carry expensive knives. Colonel Coon, Hen and Rooster, such like. Only problem is that sometimes while working I will set a knife down and forget about it. I seem to loose expensive knives and never loose cheap ones. These days for normal carry outside of work I carry a Kershaw Shuffle II in Olive Drab of course. At work I carry a Kline lock back and a CHEAP Smith & Wesson Bullseye CK112S Liner Lock, very cheap and cheesy even has what appear to be cartridges molded into the aluminum handles. The thing is I abuse that knife and it has taken thus far four years of abuse on the daily. The Tanto point makes a great expedient gasket scraper too.

Benchmade 595BK Mini-Boost with CPM-S30V blade. Always with me. If I forget to clip it on my right pocket (which is rare, but forgetful sometimes), that's when I realize how much I use it. Wouldn't be w/o it.
