What kind of scope to buy?

I have the Vortex Strikefire Green/Red Dot Scope. EXCELLENT Scope! I bought two, one for my 15-22 (Haven't mounted it on there yet...), and another for my Beretta CX4.

Very little effort to Sight In, and once it's sighted, it holds right on the money every shot. My CX4 is a 9mm, so it has a bit of a kick, but it doesn't affect the Scope at all.

The Doubler is great for 25 yds and further distances, although I generally shoot mine at 25 yds. The Range I shoot at is 50 yds, but while I'm shooting at 25 yds, I can see the backstop and rocks clearly. You can't go wrong with the Vortex! The link you have posted, is for the correct application for the 15-22. The Strikefire has two versions... the AR-15 Mount with the High Mount Ring, and the Hunter's Mount, with the Low Mount Ring. You want the AR-15 High Mount, unless you already have a Riser on your upper Rail..

Never used NcStar Brand, so I can't say yay or nay about that one.

Best of Luck!

Cheers!

The best optic will be the one which best suites your shooting needs. What type target shooting will you be doing.... supported or off hand...distances... targets?

I have ordered a NcStar Mark lll 4X32 P4 sniper upon recommendations ( Brett248Vista ) made here on this forum .
Again thanks for information gained on this forum.

Vortex is definately the better company by far, however the strikefire isn't a magnified optic so its apples to oranges. It is more of a red dot system.
If you want a real quality scope I've been non-stop recommending this to everybody lately until they either sell out or the price changes. Best $150 scope in the world by far right now. http://swfa.com/Vortex-Viper-Rifle-Scopes-C1410.aspx

NC Star 4x30 Illuminated Reticle Rubber Armored Tactical Scope

This guy is great to deal with and I highly recommend.

Here is the accuracy at 65 yds from my daughter:

I will be using for long distance target shooting 100-300 yards. It will be supported with an Bipod I got for it. mahalos...

If 100yds is going to be the minimum distance and you'll be shooting from a supported position... a magnified optic with cross hairs is the way to go. You might even consider something with a bit more magnification than 9x. There are a ton of optics within your budget that will be well suited for 100yds+.

I would consider a conventional style magnified scope and a one piece scope mount designed for an AR. The scope mount will help push the scope forward enough to get proper eye relief while still keeping everything mounted on the receiver... and give it a bit of a tactical look too.

Awesome and I love it, exactly what I want; variable zoom, illuminated retical. I know that Primary Arms makes one almost exactly the same and a little more in your price range: Primary Arms 1-4X 24 Illuminated Scope Hope this helps

WOW! 100-300 Yds? Well, this is what I have on my 15-22 now. It's a Simmons Whitetail 6.5-20x50 Scope. I "THINK" I paid $109 for it during the Christmas Sales, but they're running about $124 most places now. The highest setting on the Scope is 300 yds. This one does NOT have the Mil-Dot Reticle. This one has the Truplex Reticle shown here:

I have a Riser on my Rail, and the Front Lens Cap just barely touches the DBoy Rail Cover I have on top. However, with the Lens Cap off, the Scope doesn't touch the Rail Cover. If I removed the Rail Cover, the Lens Cap wouldn't touch it either.

However... I do like the Scope that GrimReaper21 mentions. Having a specific Reticle Setting for 22LR at distance, would certainly help your long distance shooting. I haven't seen one like that before. Pretty cool!

Best of Luck!

Cheers!

Any recommendations under $150... Mahalos in advance..

There are so many...

Midway has a gazillion optics listed. You can sort by magnification, brand and price. What's great about Midway is that there is a huge amount of scope reviews to read.

I have used the scope Blackbeard has. It really is a nice scope and quite clear through max magnification. You can easily see .22 bullet holes in paper at 200yds which is as far as I used it that day (rifle scopes aren't meant to be spotting scopes but that's what they get used for quite often). Depending on the terrain, on hot days I suspect 20x would not be of much use at longer distances. I was using a mildot reticle which was too thick for target shooting, IMO. I think I would prefer the Truplex reticle.

Notice the riser that Blackbeard has. See how it hangs over onto the handguard top rail. Not a big deal but that's why I suggested a one piece scope mount designed for an AR that will help to to push the scope forward for enough eye relief while staying on the receiver.
