These diamond targets came on an M28-2 vintage 1968. Are they rosewood?

Probably rosewood. I have a pair, the pores are very visible at some angles. I do like them. Here's mine to compare.

Goncalo Alves...….I think someday Rosewood is going to be as hard to find as Sambar Stag is today. I have heard Arizona Ironwood is almost gone...…………………………...M*

Hard wood. :D

I believe these are rose wood for a K frame. Or at least that's what I've been told.

If they are really that red, that is probably cocobola.

But Brazillian rosewood and Cocobola both have a similar grain that is waivier and less predictable than goncola alves. My guess is that the OP's grips are not quite as dark brown as his pics, or an oil was used to darken them a little.

I recently refinished a pair of goncalo Alves with neutral Danish oil and it darkened them quite a bit.

All except the top left. Perhaps that one as well. There are a lot of different parts to a tree and they can result in some pretty strange-looking pieces of wood.
